A Merry Workout Pledge #3

May 24, 2010 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

I’m a very forgetful person.

I mostly forget dates. It’s my biggest weakness. It’s surprising that my major in college was history because I rarely can remember the dates when anything happened. It’s a bit embarrassing to tell people I was a history major then not be able to remember when major events occurred (okay, I remember a few but most are long forgotten). Then again, it’s also embarassing to never remember the current date. I’m always asking people what the date is because I never remember.

So of course I forgot that it’s the 24th and near the end of the month. So of course I forgot that it’s time for another workout pledge. But thankfully, a few people on Twitter reminded me this morning (thanks y’all!) and now I’m setting it up.

This time we are going to do things a bit differently. We are still going to make it a cardio workout pledge (mostly because I don’t know how a strength one would work). But I’ve learned something from the past couple of workout pledges: anything over 60 minutes is too much for me.

When I workout, which admittedly hasn’t been much lately, I do 20-30 minutes of some cardio. Unless I’m walking to explore a place like I did this weekend I don’t do much of anything over an hour. So for me pledging to do 60 minutes at once is a lot. It’s enough for my body to feel like it did something pretty hard and it’s enough for me to feel good about it.

But I know that’s not how everyone operates. Some people love long carido sessions and can run for a few hours straight. I’m not at that point and may never be, but I still want those people who participate to get a good challenge. So here’s how it will work…

A Merry Workout Pledge

1. Pledge to do 60 minutes of cardio on one day this week and leave me a comment telling me you are doing it. Mine will be continuous and that’s the goal, but if you need to break it up throughout the day do that. I will be doing my 60 minutes either Wednesday or Thursday, depending on how things in my schedule work this week.

2. If you would like to make your pledge more of an actual pledge (making it longer), write a post linking back to this one and let people comment on your post for extra time. Start with the 60 minutes then let people add a certain amount of time for each comment they leave you. Once you’ve got your time set, come back here and leave a comment telling us how long you will go!

3. When you are finished take a picture of yourself. Send it to me amerrylife [at] gmail [dot] com along with the time 60(+) and the activity that you did.

4. Check back here next week for an awesome recap post of everyone’s successful workout!

It’s funny how the workout pledge always comes along right when I need it. I haven’t been doing any cardio at all other than the occasional walking while looking around/exploring. I need to get a good workout in, my body needs it. Maybe yours does too. Join me?

I’m in for 60 minutes. I’ll probably have to split it across a few machines, since my gym caps cardio machines at 20 minutes, but I’m in. No longer for me, because I honestly don’t see the point of going longer than an hour personally.

    :)

I’m gonna do this pledge differently. I’m just going to pledge what I’m going to do and do it in solidarity. Gonna run 13 miles on Wednesday (need to prepare for Half in June). This way I’ll get my training in and be held accountable :)

I totally should have added a point about this kind of situation. But yes… that’s good! I expect an email with your face saying you ran 13 miles!

I am in for at least 60 minutes. I have an ice hockey game Tuesday and pickup on Thursday so between the two, I will definitely get 60+ minutes of cardio in.

And yes, I am subscribed to and read your blog so don’t be too surprised :p

I’m not surprised since Rachel left that comment, but in a tiny way I am surprised. I know I have A LOT of lurkers, but I didn’t know my real life friends were some of them. :P

Hi Mary – way to go on organizing pledge #3! I’m for 60mins at least! I will see what I can do about taking you a pic of my sweaty self to send your way…I should have taken a picture of my pale/green face after this mornings’ bootcamp. I bet you could see the nausea in my eyes! LOL

I’m in for 60-minutes at least of cardio. I’m using my new Wii Game (Walk it Out) a lot recently, but I think I’ll get outside and walk if the weather holds nice. It keeps threatening to rain and then NOT RAINING… which would be fine, except that I keep not going out because it’s supposed to rain.

    ohhhhhhh my first Merry Challenge!!!!

    Awesome!!!

Count me in for 60 minutes of cardio on Friday. I’m gonna start with a kick ass mile run on the treadmill (and if my trainer is nice to me on Thursday – maybe my fastest), Then I’m gonna whip 30 minutes on the stair master and then kick it up a notch on the arc trainer for the last 15 minutes.

    RAWR!
