The time for the second workout pledge was 110 minutes and 30 seconds. In a way, this made me mad.
When I started the challenge I wanted it to be something that inspired people to exercise more. And even at 90 minutes it still felt like it was. But at 110 minutes it feels like something that scares people off. That is never something I want to do. Ever. It’s no ones fault really, some people just have different ideas about challenges and that’s okay. But I still want such a challenge to be something EVERYONE can do. And 110 minutes of cardio at once? Not everyone can do that. I can barely do that. I barely want to do that.
So I’m not doing it.
Well, ok, I’m doing it, but differently.
I said I would do the time, so I’m doing it. But I’m breaking it up. 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there, it all adds up. I’m doing that 110 minutes today in several different sessions. I’ll get plenty of cardio in and have a much more active day thanks to the pledge.
So if you would like to participate, try it this way. Do several sessions. Try different types of cardio. Go dance for 10 minutes! Take a walk for 30 minutes! Do more short sessions more times! If you do decide to participate, send Steve the information for what you did. :)
With every challenge or huge project, sometimes it can seem overwhelming. I know to some people (and myself) 110 minutes of cardio seems overwhelming. Very much so. It’s just like when you look at losing 100 pounds. It’s a huge task and you don’t even know how to start. As always, the answer is to start with small steps. Start with one small thing. Start with a 10 minute segment of cardio. Go from there.
So I’m off now to do a segment or two so I can knock this 110 minutes out. I’ll report back later and late you know how it goes!
I always thought part of the challenge was to break it up if need be and that’s what I had planned to do. Since I know that 110 minutes all at once could be very difficult I figured I would break up the workout into 2 to 3 through the day. I can see though, how it could scare some people off but I picked up on the pleas not to overdo it as well so I wasn’t as put off as some challenges i see out there.
Yay for breaking things down to more manageable chunks of time :)

It was, it just didn’t feel like that was clear this time so I wanted to make sure anyone participating knew that! :)
I’m glad you saw that and were breaking it down to manageable chunks. Go Amber!
The treadmill at the gym only goes to 99 minutes so I think that says something about this challenge, haha. I think I’ll do yoga afterwards to stretch everything out.
Good luck!

Haha. Good point.
I understand what you’re saying. I think some people were inspired and encouraged by some of us crazies, but maybe not what you intended the challenge to be. I encouraged people to pledge 30 minutes, 60 minutes, whatever they could do at their fitness level! To me it’s a challenge about encouraging each other.

Exactly. :) I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t so scary. It’s easy to look at that huge time and be scared.
110 minutes is a lot of cardio for sure. That’s a very good idea, just breaking it up so it isn’t so difficult and to motivate. :)

Good call. Better to enjoy it than dread it. Have an awesome day!

OK I gotta admit..this DID scare me..I totally did not think I would survive..but I was motivated Mary…at over 300 pounds I DID walk for 110 minutes and 30 seconds straight out…for over 5 miles and 11,000 steps…I am SORE, but I feel great and really had a great time! Do not ever underestimate the power of motivating others…everything IS possible, when you put your mind to it.
THANK YOU!!

+1,000!! Wow, that’s awesome!
Aw, Twish that’s great! I’m very proud of you. I’m glad you did that and enjoyed it. I’m glad we could motivate you and not scare you. :)
Steve seemed pretty clear that people should do what they are capable of. Like some others, I guess it didn’t strike me as a bad thing that the time was so high, as the rules were pretty fast and loose anyway.

They were. He went with what I did the first time, just do what you can kind of thing, but for me I’m just explaining what I’m doing. Go me.
Fair enough. I guess it just left a sour taste for me when you said it made you mad. Kinda surprised me.

And I realize that sounds snarky, and I really didn’t mean it to. It just honestly did surprise me.

Im sorry that surprised you, but I’m allowed to be mad, allowed to not agree with things, etc. ;)
Absolutely. Never meant to imply otherwise. :)

90 minutes was overkill, and it left me with blisters. It was interesting and a good experience, but I’m not training anything like Jacq said and it’s kinda more than I need. That’s why it kinda surprised me when this one ended up longer. I honestly thought it would be less time. Like around 60 minutes. Which is technically what I should do daily.
110 minutes is a lot! I saw that and knew I couldn’t keep up! It didn’t take me that long to run 9 miles last weekend! Good luck, Mary!
