Last night I didn’t get to lift weights.
This morning I didn’t get to walk before work.
These are things that are going to happen.
When you have to rely on other people for things your schedule can easily get away from you. My carpool buddy was late this morning and my walking time vanished. These things happen so I’m just adjusting to them as I can. Since I didn’t get to walk this morning I took the stairs and will add in extra jumping jacks throughout the day as I can. Tonight I’ll do a full body workout.
I have a schedule but it’s not rigid. It’s adaptable. It has to be.
This weekend I’m really wishing I could be at fitbloggin. I admit to complete jealousy that my blogging friends are there without me hanging out and doing cool stuff. I wish I could have gone and been a part of it, maybe even completing the whole conference!
But I’m adaptable. Since I’m not at the conference doing fitness things I’ll do them at home. This will be my own personal awesome fitness weekend.
I think a lot of times when people have a “healthy schedule” or routine where they really start to fail is when the schedule gets interrupted. They don’t know how to adapt so they throw in the towel and just go the opposite direction. For anyone with all-or-nothing thinking this is a huge trap. You have to avoid this by being adaptable!
Part of my adaptability means I need to not let the mental part get away from me. I can’t wallow in the mistakes – I have to celebrate the good things I did this week instead of focusing on the missed opportunities today. So here goes!
Ten Healthy Things I Did This Week
1. I walked a mile or more every day, usually two.
2. I brought healthy lunches to work almost every day.
3. When I did eat out with my co-workers I choose healthier options and ate mostly veggies.
4. I lifted weights after work three days this week.
5. I chose to start taking the stairs instead of the elevator which hardly anyone does.
6. I took the stairs up at least twice a day since making that decision.
7. I drank a gallon of water or more every day this week.
8. I had spinach for breakfast, my lunch included broccoli, and salad was part of my dinner today.
9. I looked into classes (like Zumba) I can take without a membership.
10. I stood confident in my decisions to live healthily despite being surrounded by people who don’t do the same.
Wow. Writing that list made me feel really good about myself and my efforts this week! Maybe everything didn’t go perfectly but I’ve done really well. :)
What are two healthy things you did this week?
yay great week! Healthy things..ive been going to the chiropractor, went to kickboxing, pilates & (very soon) yoga, done a bunch of walking, and probably more. Yay us! Ya, this week I had 2 days I couldn’t go to the gym because of very important things such as my best friend’s bday and a play, but I still get some exercise just from hiking up these hills!
Another thought-provoking blog . . . after all these years of life, if I had to choose one quality which will always pull one through, it would be adaptability. This seemingly simple skill requires emotional maturity, tact, strength, and a discernible level of wisdom.
Good for you, I say! Joy to your weekend, happy to ‘know’ you.

You’ve done great things this week! Keep it up!
You Rock! I’m going to enjoy reading a Healthy blog without the person being at Fit Bloggin. I need variety ;-)
It’s great to recognise that you need to be adaptable. I agree with what Char said about how it’s an important thing to learn, especially if you fall into all or nothing thinking. I sure know about that!
If we don’t have some flexibility with exercise and eating it’s a sure way to fall into the trap of perfectionism which can set of a binge/starve reaction that nobody wants.
Adaptability is important!
This week I upped my water consumption and I ate lots of fruit.
I suck at adaptability, but luckily I’m an early morning exerciser, and one of the things I like to do is run, which I can do anywhere in almost any city in almost any weather. So it’s unlikely for me to ever have conflicting plans at 5 a.m., so my inability to adapt doesn’t hinder me too much, but glad you’re finding ways to make it work for you!
Thanks for this informative post, I have been reading this and find this worth reading. I will bookmark your website by my next check out. Keep Posting.
I get really mad at myself if I screw up my routine to. People say your to much of a perfectionist but the truth is getting back on a routine is tough.
