Ok, so now I’m officially back on my schedule for blogging. I took a few days off while I was on my little trip to Massachusetts and I enjoyed both the trip and the days off!
This post is going to be all about good food, so if that makes you uncomfortable or super hungry when you shouldn’t be, then don’t read it. Just warning you. But if you like good food and like seeing what I’ve been eating especially while in Cape Cod and Boston, then continue onward!
First, let me say this: I am not a foodie. I am not a food blogger. I am nothing of the sort. I am just a girl learning to like and appreciate food. One thing that has helped me in that endeavor is pretending to be a foodie. I like pretending to be such because I pick up some of the positive behaviors they embody like trying new (and sometimes crazy) foods and enjoying the good food while shunning the bad. I’m not an expert and I am terrible at picking out flavors, but if you knew the way I ate as a teenager you would be amazed at how far I’ve come in my eating habits.
Let’s begin the show and tell portion of this post, shall we?
My first meal outside of Green Mountain on my trip to MA was at Applebee’s. Their cajun lime tilapia was quite nice, as was the rice, but the broccoli was too heavy in the butter. Not a good thing regarding broccoli, in my opinion.
For snack on Saturday we stopped to have Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. A child’s size serving was enough for me and my visitor during lunch.
When we met up with Karen and headed to Wellfleet, she decided we should go out to eat at Mac’s Shack. Here we are in front of the place just waiting to get to our delicious dinners.
We had a drink (or two) before dinner. My lovely MaiTai:
Then came the beginning of the best meal I have had in memory. It started with an appetizer of scallops that Rosanna chose for us all. I had never had scallops before and was a bit apprehensive, but decided to give it a try because it would be another first and it just looked so tasty:
And tasty it was. The sauce was divine and the scallops were cooked perfectly. Scallops and I had a beautiful first introduction which will be very hard to match.
Then came my entree. Oh my goodness!! I had pan-roasted halibut with mashed potatoes with lobster mixed in with a saffron-lobster broth. And wow, was it delicious. I’m tempted to drive back down to the Cape just to have this meal again it was so good.
I attribute part of the enjoyment of the meal to the way I mindfully ate it and part to the fact that it was really fresh, delicious food. (And part to the butter used in it, but we won’t discuss that here.)
On Sunday I had the least gourmet meal of all because it was one I fixed myself:
Yeah, I ate eggs scrambled in the microwave. I suppose that was another first for me but it wasn’t a good one so I ignored it.
Lunch that day significantly improved as we ate at Legal Sea Foods in Cambridge where I had a delicious and slightly spicy tuna burger, a few fries, and broccoli done the right way.
Mmm, broccoli. Dinner that night was a salad from McDonald’s and a yogurt parfait but there are no pictures of that. The next morning I ordered room service (oooh, so fancy!) for the first time and recieved this yummy meal of which I ate about half.
After breakfast I chanced upon a little cafe place next to Boston Common where I ordered a chicken kabob sandwich that became both my lunch (with a donut snack later) and my dinner (with an apple).
There you have it! A little photo tour of my delicious and sometimes nutricious meals outside of Green Mountain! I did well with the healthy eating and even though the portions look bigger in the pictures I only ate the amount I needed. Overall it was a very successful weekend of FOOD.
So I had tilapia, scallops, halibut, lobster, and tuna this weekend. Mmmm, things from the sea! My question for you is this:
What’s your favorite seafood? What’s your favorite fish?
Now, to pick back up on the regular meals and workouts routine from today:
2 mile hike up at a quick pace (hardcore!!)
1 hour upper body resistance training class (super tough because arms are sore from kickboxing yesterday)
30 minute Zumba class
