Another Friday Five MishMash

March 29, 2012 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

Woah. Today’s been a crazy day. Our internet has been wonky and SLOW because we used it all up this month too soon and that makes my work difficult since it’s 100% online. It’s been a tiring, trying day but doing this post will cheer me up I know it!

One Thing I’m Thinking About Buying

I’m thinking about buying a snowboard. If I can find one on TradeMe (site that is like Craigslist meets Ebay) I might get one before our snowboarding trip this winter. Visiting Snowplanet rekindled my love for snowboarding and woke me up to the fact that I live relatively close to mountains now (Memphis was so flat and so far away from them). I definitely plan to go multiple times while I live in New Zealand so getting a board and boots might be a good idea. I’ll think about it more but it’s been added to my “wish list” of eventual purchases.

Plus snowboarding is good exercise so I can count that as activity towards weight loss which makes a snowboard almost necessary. Right? ;)

Three Things On My Brain

1. Life is short. Yesterday I was listening to a podcast with a caller who had terminal cancer at 36. She said she hadn’t prepared for it because she didn’t expect it. What a reminder that life is short.

2. Sodium overload this week. I’ve consumed way too much sodium and I know it. I’ll post about this soon but for now all I can think about is whether my next meal is high in sodium and how I can lower it.

3. Measurements. At the gym I noticed in the mirror that my legs appeared smaller than they once were. I couldn’t tell if my judgement was accurate or not so I decided to check my measurements when I got home. Holy moly, I really have lost inches off my body in the last three months. It’s pretty exciting. In a couple days I’ll have my final LiveFit measurements to see!

Four Awesome Things About This Week

  • JuJu and I had a great week this week. She finally is starting to understand how to walk on a leash without pulling her excited little self all over. Also she now understands the word ball and will find her ball in the yard on command which is amusing. Smart doggy!
  • Dinner tonight is chicken enchilada casserole. I have no idea how to make this but the idea popped into my head last night and it sounded delicious.
  • I’m going ice skating tomorrow with a group of our friends here. Even better, today’s daily deal was for this exact activity so we are going to save half the cost. I used to dislike daily deal sites but lately they’ve been allowing us to get out and try things here without blowing our budget. I’ve only been ice skating a couple times before but it was somewhat fun so I’m looking forward to this!
  • A reader sent me a donation because his mom likes to read my blog. This rarely happens and I don’t ask for donations but it made my day. Thanks David and David’s mom!

Five Questions For You

  1. What are you having for dinner next?
  2. What is your favorite way to treat/pamper yourself?
  3. Baths or showers? Which do you prefer?
  4. What is your favorite/most trusted news website? Why?
  5. Do you still read actual newspapers or just get news online?

That’s it for me! I’m done fighting with this internet for now since I know I’ll have another couple days of slow speed to deal with.

Enjoy your Friday and your weekend!

    2. A nice long hot bath, followed by a good book while curled up in a blanket. :)
    3. Baths. I HATE the sensation of water falling on my skin. I also hate water on my face. It kind of freaks me out for some reason.
    4. I don’t really have one, though I do read headlines on several human rights related sites fairly regularly.
    5. Online.

How can you use up your internet? I love those deal sites! They absolutely brighten my life by letting me do things that I wouldn’t have thought of previously, or would have, but couldn’t really afford them. I’ve tried a lot of new things because of them! Which reminds me, my rock wall climbing coupon expires in a little more than a month so I’d better get on that.. 1) tonite we’re trying out a new recipe for black bean veggie burgers, I dunno what on the side, whatever roomie picks up. 2) sitting around by myself, watching tv and reading books, especially if it’s a weekend nite, then i feel like it’s a guilty pleasure, staying in. (ok thats SUCH an introvert answer lol) 3) showers for sure. I hate baths. Sitting around in dirty water, ew. Plus, I hate being wet, so the less time being wet the better. 4) you’ll laugh, but I usually get my news from twitter and facebook. Twitter is way faster than real news. Not a website, but I also watch cnn while I’m on the elliptical at the gym cuz that’s what they put on and I cant help it lol 5) no, and there’s no still, I’ve never been a newspaper reader, except for when I was a kid and read the Sunday comics (the ‘funnies’)!

What are you having for dinner next? – I am having pasta right now.
What is your favorite way to treat/pamper yourself? – Watching any of the Real Housewives shows. Atlanta, Beverly Hills, New Jersey – I don’t discriminate!
Baths or showers? Which do you prefer? – Shower definitely, I have a thing about feeling like I am sitting in my dirt. Strange I know.
What is your favorite/most trusted news website? Why? – I don’t trust any of them honestly. I read left wing, right wing, and international news and then try to decide what is really going on under the daily propaganda.
Do you still read actual newspapers or just get news online? – I get all my news online, although some from papers occasionally, The Washington Post is my favorite hard copy paper.

I had answered all the questions hit the wrong button and it deleted my entire comment… Ahh Monday!
Taco for dinner, love when the boy stays at grandma/papas since I am a single mommy “me time” is nice. Showers although the occasional bath is still nice… trusted site for the news don’t really have one. I read the local news online and often check the local paper online, I still get the Sunday paper for the sole purpose of reading the ads and price matching. :)

Wohoo on the inches lost! i just started reading your blog and am loving it. Working my way through the history now.

    My answers:
    1. @ Kerry, I’m doing the same so don’t feel guilty. Mine is a McCain ultra thin crust pizza with a spinach salad on the side since I’m traveling next week and have no food left in the house.
    2. Comfort Food *sigh* I should really go shopping instead!
    3. Baths all the way to soothe those aching muscles.
    4. In Canada, I’m partial to cbc.ca, canada.com and canoe.ca but I don’t trust any one source – every place has bias.
    5. I’d like to read the newspapers, but find them too difficult to manage when I can read online when I get a few free minutes here and there ~ so I’m definitely an online news girl.
