Another Year Down, Forever To Go

April 21, 2010 by Mary

I almost forgot something very important today.

It’s been a year.

It’s been a year since I restarted my weight loss when I saw the scale at 251. It’s been a year since I decided not to let depression and weight gain rule my life but to fight back. It’s been six years since the first time I decided to lose weight (at around 255+ lbs), but it’s been exactly one year since I realized how hard it was to keep off and how necessary it was to keep trying until it worked.

The year hasn’t been easy. It’s been full up huge ups and downs. Huge. But I’ve kept going. I always keep going. I may have eaten 3500 calories today (yeah, I did), but it doesn’t matter. Tomorrow I will be back to eating clean (except another slice of birthday cake) and in the gym. Because no matter what happens I always keep going.

In a year I’ve lost 38 lbs. I may be stuck at this weight for another month, who knows. But it’s 38 lbs that is staying off my body. And I’m proud of that fact and the progress I’ve made in the last year. I’ve learned how to cook, I’ve taken control of my exercise habits, I’m still learning more of these things and how to treat myself well. It’s a long process but I’m committed to it. I’m never giving up on myself again.

Life is good. You are worth it. Keep fighting.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!!!

You are so right—it’s important to recognize your accomplishments (losing nearly 40lbs, maintaining your weight as well). You’re not doing yourself or anyone else any good if you beat yourself up for not hitting goal by X deadline.

Also, I loved your goofy post. We all have multiple identities: goofy, beautiful, cute and smart included. We need to celebrate them all.

Now, as for celebrating, go enjoy that birthday!
