It seems I’ve hit that point in life where everyone around me is settling down and having kids and I’m throwing baby showers left and right. I’ve gone to almost a dozen baby showers so far this year. I love kids but the whole process is pretty tiring when you are going to multiple showers and trying to decide what to buy.
Since I go to so many showers I tend to buy a baby gift I want to buy in addition to something small from the registry. This always ends up being a cute piggy bank. It makes me feel good to buy something that reminds the parents to save and hopefully will one day be used to teach the child how to save on their own!
There are a ton of cute piggy banks for kids available these days. I like including them in baby shower gifts but they are also a great idea for birthday parties. Here are some of my favorites, which include affiliate links (this means I’ll make a small commission if you buy anything but it doesn’t change your cost at all).
Baby Gift: Piggy Bank
I can’t help but love traditional pig piggy banks! This one is cute and durable since little ones tend to knock over, slobber, and generally play hard with everything. This traditional pink piggy bank is a great option for a boy or girl.
So cute for an alligator! This ferocious piggy bank for kids would work well in an animal themed room or for any child that is obsessed with reptiles. Let the alligator eat the money and see the savings grow!
Perfect for a boy or girl, this bright green frog piggy bank helps kids save money easily. It’s a great addition for a kids animal themed nursery.
I love this monkey piggy bank for kids! I bought it for my friend who requested monkey themed toys and clothes for her little one. It paired perfectly with some monkey themed onesies for a great gift.
For the car lovers! The movie Cars is always popular with kids, especially little boys. This piggy bank will be perfect for any future car lovers.
Mickey is always a classic choice for any baby gift. A Micky Mouse piggy bank is a colorful and fun choice to get kids saving early in life. Little kids of all generations love Mickey Mouse and this is a great way to get them interested in saving money. They can even start saving up for a Disney trip!
This money savvy piggy bank is also a teaching tool! I haven’t gotten this one yet but I think it would be a great gift for a later birthday. I plan to buy these for my future children.
If you don’t like any of these, there are a ton of cool piggy bank options available!
Baby Gift: Bank + Book
I didn’t think about this until just now while looking through Amazon but it would be such a cute gift to also give a couple books about saving! I know a lot of parents these days do book walls in nurseries so this would be a great fit for a few of my new parent friends. Never hurts to start reading about money early!
I like these money saving book options:
Curious George is a classic character through many generations. I love this book Curious George Saves His Pennies. It’s a great way to introduce the concept of saving to children with a fun character.
This Dr. Seuss like book One Cent, Two Cents, Old Cent, New Cent is a great way to introduce money concepts to children. Great book for young children especially.
Growing up I loved all the Berenstain Bears books including this The Berenstain Bears’ Dollars and Sense. This book is super fun with tear-out checks that makes it more interactive.
I’m definitely going to combine a book and bank for my next baby gift. All my friends know me as a financially savvy and responsible girl who regularly talks about money so it’s not that surprising for me to show up with something like this in addition to gifts from the registry. If you are buying items off the registry that are requested it’s not that big of a deal to add in a cool piggy bank and book about money for the new baby.
Have you ever given a piggy bank or book about money as a gift? What’s your favorite baby gift to give?
