Now that we’re embarking on the journey of parenthood it feels like it is more important than ever to get our budget/finances under control. Something about adding an extra $1,000 a month in expenses makes you realize you’ve got to be a lot tighter with your money!
I’m using my Happy Planner to help keep track of our budget on paper in addition to using apps like Mint, and I’m sharing it all on YouTube!
I’ve found the YouTube community to be great while I was working my way out of debt and paying off my credit cards and car loan. There are so many people there using the platform to talk about budgeting, paying of debt, and spending wisely! I’ve been so inspired by that community that budgeting has become a big topic of the videos I make there.
I’m sharing our Feb budget that shares how we are planning to spend our take home income. It’s a little strange to share online with strangers and friends alike but I strongly believe not talking about money more does a disservice to people.
It’s far to easy to think you are the only one drowning in debt or struggling to save or making lots of money mistakes. I know firsthand that the despair of debt and money mistakes can cause dire real life consequences. Talking about money and helping each other (especially instead of shaming others) is super important.
So here’s my budget in all it’s glory!
The main goal this month is to keep extra spending low so we can afford to save the big amounts we want to save. We are trying so hard to create a comfortable cushion financially for when the baby gets here and that will be the focus this month and in the next several months.
Will we perfectly hit it this month? Probably not. Do I hope we come close! You betcha! Will sharing our plan and tracking our expenses throughout the month help get us closer to the goals we’ve set out? 100% yes.
Do you budget? How do you plan your money and stay on track with your finances?
