Getting More Steps With Polar Loop Daily Steps Challenge

November 17, 2014 by Mary

polar loop activity tracker reviewMy daily steps challenge is off to a pretty weak start. I didn’t set an official start day though I should have picked today, a Monday. The past few days have been consumed by family activities as my brother got married this weekend. It was incredibly fun working to set up the wedding and I really enjoyed the experience of adding new family members to our clan.

However, all that awesomeness means that I haven’t yet hit my daily goal of steps. I didn’t wear my Polar Loop for a full day, but each day I’ve had a lot more steps counted than I normally would have otherwise. While it’s encouraging, I want to do better and actually hit that higher number I set for myself.

Positive things:

  • lots of steps even though I didn’t hit 13,000 once
  • challenge reminds me to move more
  • awareness of areas that need to improve

Things to improve:

  • getting in a daily workout at the gym
  • finding time and motivation for walks despite yucky weather
  • waking up earlier and go on a walk with juju
  • finding ways to get in activity at the end of the day

Overall

I think to hit my goal a daily workout has to be included. 30 minutes on the elliptical or a Zumba class will easily get me to 13,000 steps but without it I’ve struggled to get past the 10,000 range with additional activity.

I also realize now that updating daily won’t happen since I’m no longer a daily blogger and really don’t want to be. I will be tracking daily with my Polar Loop and I’ll try to update at least weekly with successes and failures.

I’m off now to get in more steps for my daily count today! It’s a Monday and I’m going to hit 13,000 no matter what!

    Hi,

Sadly to say, I’m so glad you haven’t started your 13k a day until today because I have been thinking about joining you all weekend. I truly love my polar loop — had it since May — and wear it pretty much all day every day. I have come down 2/3 dress sizes with it and have planned my life around going to the gym after work. Now if I can only find great foods to eat I would be set. I will be tracking with you and letting you know how its going. Good luck!

Awesome! I actually had a terrible day dealing with a stomach virus (or something terribly unpleasant) so I didn’t get enough steps again. Unfortunate timing for an illness. Today I’m still recuperating so I’m hoping Wednesday will be my day of walking success!

As I took my Vivofit off before showering tonight I thought hmm I didn’t come anywhere close to my goal today. I took my tennis shoes to work and had planned to go for a walk but it ended up pouring down rain here today. I can’t go back to work looking like a drowned rat, right? LOL. I think I definitely have to do a lunch walk along with evening exercise (I normally crossfit, run or Zumba) but it isn’t enough with my sit down job. I have been walking downstairs to use the ladies room to get extra steps in. The trackers definitely make you more aware of getting up and moving! Keep up the good work everyone. We will get to our goals!

We will! It’s fascinating to see how hard it can be to get to that higher step number without actually working on it and adding in extra activity on purpose. I think most of us with sit down jobs would get like 5,000 max on a day without exercise. It’s crazy how much you are forced to sit for work!

Keep up the good work. I think you probably expelled a good amount of energy with wedding prep. :) This is a new week. I know you will make it if you try.
