While I’m making progress on the baby’s nursery I’ve been slightly obsessed with keeping things organized. Most of the projects I’ve done and plan to do revolve around ways to organize all of the baby’s things.
That obsession with organization led to my favorite DIY project so far: a rolling diaper cart!
I saw this project on Pinterest early on in pregnancy and loved the concept. I knew we would plan to have our main changing area in the nursery but inevitably baby would get changed in other rooms of the house as well. Having a diaper cart that rolled and could be easily positioned in different rooms sounded very practical for our situation.
I bought my rolling cart from Michael’s instead of Ikea because I walked in one day with my coupons and couldn’t resist the color on the Lexington 3 tier cart. I love mint as an accent color and it’s in small doses all around our house.
I used things I already had on hand to organize things within the cart. The Easter basket was part of an awesome gift I received at a baby shower and the diapers are stuck inside the container that our Aveeno baby gift set came in.
Currently the diaper caddy cart is stocked with things I think we will use often:
- diapers
- baby wipes
- baby lotion
- baby powder
- diaper rash cream
- diaper rash cream brush
- boogie wipes
- burp cloths
- bibs
- swaddle blankets
- a couple toys
Overall this is just a guess of what I think we will want in the cart. I’m sure it will change once baby makes her grand arrival and teaches us what she needs and wants. I may end up making it more breastfeeding focused if that process goes well, or eventually it could become a cart with clothes and accessories or her own little toy cart! There are a lot of possibilities.
I chose not to open any of the diaper packages in the cart in case she comes early (the purple diapers were open already as part of a baby shower game). Baby girl is measuring big based on our last ultrasound so it’s possible she may skip newborn size diapers totally!
The bottom of the diaper cart has 4 swaddle blankets to use for swaddling the baby. We plan to swaddle based on reading The Happiest Baby on the Block**. We have quite a few swaddle blankets put away in our nursery dresser as well so this space will be for the first ones to grab or if we are swaddling in another room away from the crib.
I loved putting this cart together and huge shoutout to my husband who actually assembled the cart.
Shoutout to these fellow diaper cart designs from across the web who helped inspire this project! Check out all these awesome blogs for more ideas on how to use and style your diaper cart if you plan to take on this project too!
