Eating Out: Yum Cha

Eating out too often is probably my biggest problem right now.

We like food and we like going out to eat on dates and with friends which means we spend too much time and money at restaurants right now. It’s not exactly conducive to weight loss either.

The worst time of it is on the weekends. Every weekend we usually eat out at least twice if not more. I’ll be honest in admitting I don’t really want to give that up so I’m trying to just be smarter about my choices.

Today for instance we went to a Chinese restaurant for yum cha with some friends.

Yum cha

Knowing I’d probably eat more calories than needed and because I slept in, I skipped breakfast this morning. I rarely if ever skip breakfast but in this case it made sense and will offset some of the calories from a lunch at a restaurant.

Yum cha is just drinking tea and eating dim sum dishes that are brought around on carts so I tried a little bit of everything that looked good on our table including bbq pork, squid, noodles, chicken rice, custard tart, and these dough balls filled with delicious pumpkin filling.

Luckily I was eating with four hungry dudes so most of the food went to them while I drank a ton of tea. Since I only ate a little bit of each plate and lunch lasted two hours I ended up having a decent meal and not overeating at all. Score!

Figuring out how to eat what I want and eat out at restaurants and still reach a healthy weight is going to be a challenge I’m sure. But I’m looking forward to solving it! So far, so good! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I have the exact same problem: eating out too much. We socialize a lot by going out to restaurants. My friends from work now know if they go out to eat with me, then we are also going out to the park to walk a couple of miles :)

I have never been to a place like that. It looks so fun. I love trying new foods, and food in general.

yum i LOVE dim sum! i was supposed to go the wkend before last, but a friend overslept. boo. i have to admit, ive never been able to stretch a meal out to 2 hrs, i am a very fast eater and so are my friends. it usually takes longer to order than it does to eat! bad habit.. for some reason i eat out more on the weknd too, even though theoretically, i should eat out less, since i have more time to cook.
