For years I avoided drinking coffee. I made it through college and the first couple years of my career without drinking coffee at all. In fact, I was kind of proud of the fact that I didn’t drink coffee.
Learning to Love Coffee
A few years ago, I started going to coffee shops with coworkers and started trying out coffee drinks. Almost everyone I knew at work and in my family and friend circles drank coffee so it was an easy transition. I started with vanilla lattes and worked my way through almost every kind of drink I could think to order from the menu.
In the last few years I’ve fallen into the coffee drinker role easily. I now visit local coffee shops and Starbucks on the regular and even have a coffee maker and a Keurig at home and a Keirug at work. I have multiple coffee sources in my life!
My Favorite Coffee Drinks
On my birthday I got a free drink at Starbucks so I went with one I rarely order but consider one of my favorites.
My favorite drink: Iced caramel macchiato.
It’s so good! A former coworker always used to order these when we went to Starbucks so I eventually tried one too. It’s definitely my “special drink” that I get on special occasions. I actually never get the venti size either so I didn’t even finish my drink because there was so much of it.
In fact, I normally get a drink that is much less exciting.
My usual drink: iced americano.
My usual drink at Starbucks is an iced americano. It’s basically espresso with water and ice. It’s got a grand total of like 15 calories and not super sweet. My coffee loving friends in Oregon always ordered it when I lived there so I started drinking them once I finally gave in to drinking coffee. It’s a lower calorie alternative to regular iced coffee which I also enjoy. I love cold coffee so most of my favorite drinks are iced versions of drinks!
My favorite new coffee shop drink: latte.
If I’m going to a new coffee shop to try it for the first time I always order a latte (or vanilla latte). It’s the drink that every coffee shop has even if they only have a small amount of options. I know without a doubt I can always get a latte and it’s one of the things I like to use to judge a coffee shop along with atmosphere, staff, etc. Lattes can tell you a lot about a place. Plus, they are delicious too!
These are my favorite coffee options! What’s your favorite?
I’ve just recently tried the iced macchiato for the first time and it was delicious. My favourite drink from Starbucks is grande iced soy latte with caramel sugar free syrup, and I’ll have it with whatever espresso they’re promoting too.
That sounds so good!
I started drinking coffee in college, too. for purely social reasons. We went to Starbucks constantly. I started with vanilla lattes with twice the amount of vanilla and half the amount of espresso. It took a long time for me to enjoy the taste of coffee. Now I drink non-flavored lattes with ground cinnamon sprinkled on top.
I totally understand that! My friends went all the time in college. I’d either get nothing or water or occasionally a non-coffee iced drink. I love drinks with cinnamon!
The iced caramel macchiato is definitely my current fave.
