Having a full time job and a side blogging gig and planning a wedding takes up a lot of time. I’m starting to understand that now. (Although really the wedding planning takes up the least amount of time because we are planning such a low-key casual event!) Trying to fit in having a social life plus meal planning/prep/cooking plus exercise can be tough. I get it now because it really has been tough trying to figure things out.
the park where I eat breakfast in the mornings
Luckily I think I’ve found my rhythm.
My post yesterday about the little fitness things I’ve been doing was a light bulb for me. That post is basically going to be my fitness schedule for the next six months or so because it seems to work well with my current work/life schedule.
My plan is to walk 1 or more miles in the morning before going into work at 9 am. This is pretty easy for me since I get downtown early every morning. I like this also because it wakes me up and gets me ready to use my brain.
Then I will also walk 1 mile during my lunch break generally around noon. It takes me about twenty minutes to walk a mile so it’s safe to say I can walk at least one mile, possibly even closer to two on days where I go out for a longer period after eating quickly.
I will fit in little bursts during the day including walks to get water and walks down the hall to the bathroom. In the bathroom I’ll do 10 jumping jacks (if empty) or something arm related (if people are around). I also plan to take the stairs when possible but I need to get access first.
Then after work when I get home at 5:30 I will do a quick 20-30 minutes of strength training. I did this yesterday and today and it wasn’t bad at all.
That will add up to two or more miles walked, 30 minutes of strength training, and lots of little fitness bursts during the day. I think that’s enough for me for now on weekdays. Today I did 3 miles walked, 50 jumping jacks, 10 wall pushups, and lower body strength training. On the weekends I hope to be active for most of the day either walking or doing some other activity.
all the activity and good weather is making me happy!
As far as food goes my plan is too make dinner after strength training around 6 to 6:30. I can make extra to take to work the next day or make something else at that time as well. As a fall back option yesterday I bought a few frozen meals to keep in the freezer at work so I will never be forced to eat out if I don’t want to make that choice. I see that having good backup options in place is necessary for when the first line of defense fails.
Being healthy is all about trying your best to make good choices and having backup plans when that first option fails. I think I’ve figured out now all the first and second choices for this to be a very successful and healthy period of life.
I’m excited and happy about what is to come!
