Fitness: 100 Day Workout Streak

January 20, 2014 by Mary

Since I started my Gym Pact I’ve been going to the gym 3 times a week consistently. Now, I’m upping my game, thanks to my friend Candace.

That’s Candace and I from the night we went ice skating in December. She doesn’t know that she is on the blog today… she’ll find out later. ;)

Candace is a great friend and I love when we hang out because we usually do active things together – ice skating, running, etc.

The Workout Streak Idea

A few days ago I texted her about starting to run again. I stopped after the race I was training for was cancelled and we went through a spell of cold weather, and it felt like time to start again.

I realized she was so, so right about have to start over again and how much hard it was every time. I know running will be harder to pick up again after a month and a half of not running, which is why I should not have stopped!

After thinking about it for all of five minutes I decided I was in! Candace felt crummy over the weekend and couldn’t run but I hit the gym yesterday to start my streak and she will be joining me this week.

The 100 Day Workout Streak

This week officially begins out 100 day workout streak! I will be on day 2 today and plan to hit the gym after leaving work. Luckily my gym is in-between my work space and my house so it’s a convenient stop on my way home.

As far as workout rest days – meh! I placed way too much importance on these in the past. There is no day where I need to sit around and do nothing. None! At the very least I need to go on a 30 minute walk which will count and will probably be my workout on days where I have sore muscles.

This streak is built upon the idea that a body in motion stays in motion – and that’s what I want to do. Stay in motion. Stay active.

I’m super excited to be doing this and glad I have a real life friend doing it as well. If you’d like to join us we’d love to have you! I plan on reporting in every week on my progress with the workout streak and share what I did. You can share your workouts then too!

Happy working out!

Ahhhh I want in!!! My goal is just 2 minutes of exercise a day to start out, but I fully intend to build on that once I’m in the consistent habit of getting up to move every day. (I started out trying 5 minutes a day, but kept skipping it). Today was my third day of my 2-minute-a-day streak. So far I’ve done stairs (6.5 round trips), upper body strength (sets of 10 flys, reverse flys, and bicep curls, all with 10–15 pound dumbbells…this probably lasted longer than 2 minutes), and a 2:02 plank (my longest plank to date!). My goal honestly was just to see if I could last a week, since I kept struggling with being consistent. But I made a choice that this time would be different, so why NOT go for 100 days? I’m in!

Sweet! I think building the habit is harder than anything else really. You are doing great and the streak will help us both be more consistent. Let’s do it!

This is a good idea. I should start something similar. I sometimes struggle to find the motivation to work out! Best wishes!

That’s awesome!! I actually had dinner with another friend last night and mentioned it and he was like “why don’t you just do that every day?”, meaning beyond 100 days. It got me thinking that if I make it to 100 without a break then it might just end up being extended to a year or more!

First off all congrats on weaning off Lexapro (it’s a bitch but you are doing it!). I love this 100 day movement reminder. I know it is something that I need to pick back up.

For me I found even if its walking 1/2 an hour extra during the day I do get to enjoy another boost of endorphins and other feel good hormones, This is a great motivation which I maybe jumping in your bandwagon.
