It’s amazing how little time there can be in the day sometimes.
But oh hey, I’m sneaking in activity when I can.
Morning Yoga
Yesterday I had the strangest urge to do yoga so I decided I would do a bit of morning yoga. It’s been a long time since I’ve done yoga so all I could remember was a basic sun salutation. That was enough though and it was perfect for waking me up and getting my body ready for the day. I did about 10 minutes of that this morning when I first woke up and it set a good tone for the day. I’m definitely doing it again tomorrow.
Walking
As always, I’ve been walking. I walked a little over a mile before work this morning. I didn’t get to walk at lunch time but I did walk to lunch and took lots of little trips during the day to the bathroom down the hall from my office. This was a light day walking for me but I still got in at least a mile which is my daily goal.
Jumping Jacks
That infographic yesterday planted an idea in my head to do jumping jacks. So today I did ten jumping jacks in the bathroom every time I went. Sure it’s silly and the whole time I was anxious that someone would come in, but I still did it. At the end of the day I did over 50 jumping jacks (I lost count).
Jumping jacks during my bathroom breaks really helped me mid afternoon when I got tired. It completely re-energized me for work when I went back.
Weight Lifting
I decided to lift weights when I got home from work. It was actually pretty convenient to not need to get dressed up and go to the gym. I suppose as long as I psych myself up for it before I get home then it’s not so bad. I did an upper body workout and it took my half an hour to finish. My arms were feeling it since I haven’t done anything in two weeks.
So that was my day of activity. It seems like a decent amount and variety so I’m happy with it! I think it will be relatively easy to fit in activity around my schedule now that I’m getting used to it. Sure I’ll be sitting a lot but I can work around that for now. ;)
Hi Mary
It’s great that you are fitting inn some activity and a workout through out the day. It is much more convenient to workout at home. I got all kinds of little equipment in my garage/gym, but I also do enjoy to go for a nice run here and there.
You can also try getting a jumping rope, and start slowly through out the day when you are at home.
I am writing a post tomorrow about meal scheduling for beginners to loose weight. It will also include how to schedule your workouts with the meals. But you can make it work around your schedule. I think it will definitely help you get to your goals for the wedding.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is your goal before the wedding?
Hi — First, I’m really loving your blog. Second, I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind posting what kind of weight workouts you do. I’m just about to purchase some free weights and I was curious as to what you’ve found that works. I don’t want to be overly ambitious and buy too much and find out that I’m not using half of them. I just want a simple, upper-body workout with the appropriate amount of weight and repetition. Thanks for always posting such helpful stuff – continued best of luck to you!
Erin
Sure! What I do is really basic usually and then to switch it up I’ll do an occasional BodyRock TV or other online workout. I’ll whip a post about this soon.
That’s great – thanks so much!
Totally awesome that you fit that much activity in to your day! Go for it!
And: morning yoga rocks. I’m a huge fan of the AM Yoga section from Rodney Yee on this AM/PM Yoga dvd I have. Just puts you in the right mindset to tackle the rest of the day.
It sounds like you did get a good variety in there. Your post yesterday inspired me to get back to an old habit I had. I would set the microwave timer and do 10 squats and 10 push ups every hour so by the time my hubby got home I’d done almost 100 of both depending on what time I started it.
Oh that’s a cool way to do it!
Great idea to fit exercise in when and where you can!
Great job fitting in the some workouts. That is always the hardest part.
I like the idea of AM yoga for setting a good tone to the day. I had the chance to do it on the beach in Feb on a trip to florida and it made me feel so centered and peaceful.
Fitting it in – that is what counts. All studies show that even if you break it up thru the day, you still get the benefit! :-)
Do you have a one person bathroom? Sometimes I jump in the office, not the jacks just the jump, because I’m bored or cold, or both, while waiting for tea or the copier or whatever. And weird stretches. Lol. Or you could lock yourself in an empty office and do random crunches, ive done that too. Helps pass the day along!
Nope, it’s shared between all the offices on our floor so sometimes I’ll go an be alone and sometimes I’ll go and four people will be in there. Just depends.
That’s great!
I do have a crazy image of someone walking in on you doing jumping jacks. How will you explain that one?
HAHA. Our bathroom actually has to be unlocked with a key to get in so I can hear someone before they come in and can stop. ;)
Way to go, Mary! Lots of great little ways to work in movement that add up to a nice, active day. My favorite is the jumping jacks in the restroom!
Get a hula-hoop! It’s great fun! And Ii dance a lot…
