Y’all it is HOT.
We are under an excessive heat warning and these temperatures are in that range that I personally consider unbearable. I’ve unfortunately gone outside for too long in the last few days and each time my skin breaks out in a heat rash/hives. I’m literally allergic to it being this hot.
There are some bright sides to it being hot: I eat a lot healthier!
When it’s hot there are certain foods I crave that are all really healthy. I never want heavy meals or anything made in the oven – it’s too hot for all of that!
Here’s what I’m loving while it’s 100+ degrees.
Salads are the bomb during the summer!
I’d much prefer a light salad to a heavy side dish in the summer and big salads are a great meal during these hot months. Eating salads at least once a day during the summer is easy.
Last night I made this black bean and corn salad with salsa as a dressing – it was the perfect side dish to my turkey burger and left me feeling light but satisfied.
More drinks! I love making smoothies for meals in the summer. It’s so refreshing to have a cool smoothie instead of eating something warm.
I love drinking a spinach and berry smoothie in the mornings. It’s a great way for me to eat breakfast and cool down on my drive in to work after I’ve walked Juju in the morning.
Smoothies are also a nice snack if you’re wanting something sweet and cool but want to stay on the healthy side. Smoothies double as a way to get in lots of vegetables and fruits so it’s great for feeling lighter and healthier.
Water & Spark
I drink so much more water during the summer simply because I have to drink it! It’s one of the essential things to do during hot weather.
It’s important to stay hydrated when it’s hot and if I’m outside I will start to feel sick unless I’m constantly drinking water. Keeping a bottle of cool water with me at all times is something I try to do throughout the summer.
I’ve added AdvoCare Spark to my hydration routine this summer since it gives me teh caffeine and keeps me hydrated at the same time. Currently I’m liking it better than coffee and will be buying some of the new formula Spark soon.
