I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how my kitchen is sadly missing many of the things I love to eat often.
Many times this week I’ve walked into the kitchen and thought:
“There is nothing to eat in here!”
Before lunch (the meal I make for myself since I eat alone and we all eat dinner together) I’ve had to go in the kitchen, look around, stand in the kitchen, look around, think about the food and what I can make, look around again, walk out of the kitchen, walk back in, look around… and make a sandwich.
It’s a lot of work just to come out with a basic sandwich that I didn’t even want in the first place.
Eating sometimes involves a lot of work. It can involve a lot of thought or very little at all. It can take a lot of time or be almost instantaneous. Eating is a very interesting thing. Like anything else in life, you generally get back what you put in. If you put in the thought and effort required you will get back a delicious meal that you want to eat.
But not having any of the key elements to make food you enjoy makes it a lot more difficult. It makes me put less effort into what I’m going to eat and make me enjoy it less.
Hopefully I’ll go grocery shopping soon. I haven’t been because I’ve been sick and I haven’t asked anyone to shop for me because I’m pretty particular about the things I want (I read ingredient labels and all that).
I’m hoping that tomorrow or the next day I can go to the grocery store and just wander around. That’s something I’m dying to do – just explore the grocery store alone without time restraints. I love grocery shopping and finding new foods and it’s something I haven’t been able to do since I’ve been here. I want to take my small list and then just look around for a while.
Things on my grocery list are staples that I eat pretty often or at least want to eat often:
- greek yogurt
- almond butter
- trail mix
- pumpkin seeds
- black beans
- turkey breast
- salad greens
- sweet potatoes
- organic dark chocolate
Okay, I want some chocolate. I keep going back and forth on the sugar issue. Sometimes I think life is too short not to eat any sugar and sometimes I think I should cut out all sugar and sugar related things (it’s hard to do). But it’s on my list regardless so if I get to go shopping I might pick it up and be happy with it’s healthiness factor as organic and dark chocolate.
Okay, enough rambling about food from me.
Also tell me…. What’s on your grocery list?
