Happy Almost Halloween, y’all!
I’ve been crazy busy this week with trying to get my shit together. It seems that lately everything feels like it’s two seconds away from all falling apart. Do you ever feel like that? Like everything is just holding on by some very unstable strings? It drives me crazy so my main goal in the next year is to develop more stability in life.
However, I wanted to share a few goings on!
Juju!
This is my whiny, whiny dog.
She is spoiled beyond measure yet she is the most entitled dog in the world. She gets ham meat from my mom for breakfast this morning and many dog park trips and yet she thinks the world is ending when she can’t get on the bed. She is allowed on all other furniture but no longer sleeps on my bed. This makes her such a sad dog. I had to capture it because it just cracks me up.
Baby Love!
My sweet, sweet niece had her first professional photos taken this week! I snapped a quick iPhone photo just because I thought she was so adorable.
I’ve seen my sis-in-law so much more since the baby came and I love it. Nothing like a baby to bring family together. I’m ready for all my siblings to start having kids so there are bunches of babies and kids growing up together. It’s so exciting.
Calligraphy!
More on this at another time, but I took my list of goals and started working on it by taking a calligraphy class.
I loved the class and found the whole process of calligraphy really relaxing. I’ve been practicing a little bit each night in order to wind down. I find the process of making my letters pretty is really fun. Just like coloring books it’s a great task for me to do each night to wind down and help control anxiety. I love artistic hobbies soo much!
Health Updates!
I plan on doing a full post on some of these topics soon but here’s what has been on my mind:
Drinking calories: I’ve found it’s hard to lose weight when I’m drinking so many calories in the form of morning coffees and happy hour and party drinks.
Health scares: Several people close to me have had health scares lately. It’s a huge reminder of how important it is to take care of yourself. Health is something you can’t get back sometimes.
Exercise: I’m once again considering joining a new gym. I’d like something a little more regimented like a bootcamp. This is something I think I need to push myself to get into the best shape ever. I just need to pull the trigger and sign up!
Halloween!
I found out we are going to a party this year (like every year) but I somehow thought it might not happen. This means I’m totally unprepared for a Halloween costume!
Last year I was made a DIY Mad Hatter costume that I loooooved. It was one of my favorite costumes ever.
This year I have no idea what to wear or be for Halloween! Any quick last-minute suggestions that don’t involve going to buy a costume?
What are you going to be for Halloween?
I’ve gone as a pile of laundry before when I didn’t want to buy a costume. Just safety pin socks, washcloths, etc to your clothes. I would also wear a box of dryer sheets as a hat.
If you like things like Boot camp, do you have one of those 9Round gyms in your area? They are quick 30 minute workouts going through a circuit of boot camp type stuff.
Haha! That’s a good last minute costume. :)
I’ve never hear of the 9round gym. I wonder if we have something else like that! I considered Crossfit but looking at all the gyms the price was higher than I wanted to pay for a month.
Love that you are doing calligraphy! Have you investigated handlettering? so many options and possibilities – super fun!
Yes! I just looked into it and am going to take a brush lettering class in December as a Christmas present to myself! I am super excited about that. I want to make friends and family some hand lettered prints for Christmas to go with their gifts. :)
Your calligraphy is gorgeous! What a lovely thing to do as a kind of mindful meditation. I’ve always loved colouring but only did so when babysitting nieces and nephews. I’ve recently purchased my own grown up colouring book and like it but will admit I prefer doing so with the kids!
As for drinking calories, have you considered switching to black coffee? I know it sounds horrid! I was a regular 2 latte a day girl until 3 years ago when I made a real effort to clean up my diet and lose weight (again! but this time it stuck!). It was a gradual transition… I switched to one black coffee at home and then a soy latte at work. As I got used to the black coffee at home, I then weaned myself off the soy lattes as well. Now I can’t imagine drinking it with milk. And the extra bonus?! I’d been struggling with adult acne and it went away when I did away with the milk. I realised this small change was the different of 200-400 calories a day depending on the size of lattes.
That’s an awesome way to transition! I’ve actually gotten down to drinking 1 iced americano at Starbucks instead of the higher calories stuff instead but I can’t seem to drink hot black coffee. At work we have hot coffee provided so that’s where this ends up being a huge problem on busy days where I drink multiple cups. It’s been a while since I tried out black coffee so maybe I’ll give it another go!
