Today has been one of those days. One of those long, makes you ache when its over kind of days.
I left the apt I was staying in D.C. this morning at 6:20 to catch a metro, then a bus (twice because I got off at the wrong stop), had to beg for cash when I couldn’t find an atm, flew from D.C. to Chicago, lost $10 to a transit card, rode the train into downtown Chicago. And that was all by 2:20 pm.
After I got settled in to my hostel room I went out to meet Cammy from tippytoediet.com for a walk. She is one of my favorite bloggers and from my hometown of Memphis. (How’s that for ya, we live 20 minutes away from each other and meet in Chicago!) She is also now the first blogger I’ve met! Woohooo! I’m sure I will meet many more this weekend and I can’t wait to do so. I hope someone wants to meet me *cue shy girl stuck in the corner because of large scary groups syndrome.*
Since I started moving this morning the only time I’ve really had to sit was while eating or using some form of transportation. I am therefore dead tired. I know it was technically supposed to be day 2 of my C25k, but can I substitute like 10 miles of walking, stairs, and assorted fitness? I have new blisters to prove my dedication to constant momentum for the day, even though I wore comfy tennis shoes. (Um, yes that was me limping the mile back to my hostel.) My feet don’t want to cooperate with my new walking schedule. They definitely don’t want to cooperate with my desire to be a runner.
Why exactly did I walk so much today? Well besides the travel induced walks from one transportation to another, I walked miles and miles with Cammy. Okay, we didn’t walk to terribly far because we were slowly strolling, but we walked for 4.5 hours this afternoon. I’ve seen a lot of cool things in Chicago now – the bean, navy pier, the lake, beaches, etc. We made a huge loop and walked down Michigan Ave and stopped by to pick up our name badges for BlogHer. I chose to skip out on the People’s Party so I could drag my blistered, tired self back to my hostel and get some rest before tomorrow. Traveling for a while before coming to BlogHer was great but has left me caring less and less about the conference and going to parties. I’m excited to learn some new things, but meeting hundreds of people I won’t remember? Eh. I’ll give my brain and body a rest instead. Love you bloggers and can’t wait to meet ya, but taking care of myself is more important.
Speaking of which, it is time for me to crash. My body NEEDS some sleep. Literally. Eyes, closing, no control. Zzzzzz.

have a FAB weekend!! how awesome that you and Cammy got to meet!! I just heard about blogher. Sounds intriguing! Great thing about walking while touring…it doesn’t seem like such hard work. Drink LOTS of water.. especially when flying – and after… it tends to make you retain.
Can’t wait to hear more about the conference!

Sounds like a marvelous time! I love meeting people from the Internet. Note even one of them has turned out to be a rapist (I think), so that’s good.
Anyhow, have a great time!

That is so cool that you and Cammy got to meet up! It sounds like you guys did quite a bit of walking, even if it was at a leisurely pace. I hope your feet feel better soon – blisters are never fun.
Enjoy yourself at BlogHer!

Unfortunately no $ on this end in CA. HA! Me & the state have no $$.. for those of you that have heard that CA is broke!
Keep enjoying!!! Sounds like lots of learning & fun!

@Yum Yucky
I’ve had some yummy food at parties. The food at the conference? Eh. So so. Breakfast was an egg english muffin and fruit, lunch was a salad and some chicken and iffy rice. The parties have had yummy food though. :)
@Katherine
I don’t think I will go again if I am not sponsored. I would like to attend as a sponsored person so I have a purpose (i.e. hand out swag, talk up their product) instead of just being here. It is fun, but it isn’t teaching me much I didn’t already know. I’m enjoying the people but would definitely only come next time with multi purposes.

I had an interesting stay, the one time I stayed at a hostel, in miami. Its pretty brave of you to go on this long trip alone. So besides of meeting everyone, you don’t think you learned much about blogging u didn’t already know? I wonder, has anyone written up a blog saying what the key points discussed were? I’m sure they have… id be curious to read it.
