Okay, so I wrote about how much I love kickboxing before, so you probably aren’t surprised that I keep talking about it. But I wanted to SHOW you one of the reasons why I love it so much: the instructor.
Reasons To Get Started With Kickboxing
- Great workout
- Works a lot of different muscles
- Burns a lot of calories

- Can move up to more advanced workouts
Kickboxing Instruction Video
The following video is a short intro to the basic punches in kickboxing. You an do a simple kickboxing workout using only punches or only kicks to get in a good cardio workout on your own.
The video features Jen, who is the awesome Fitness and Recreation Manager at Green Mountain. She loves kickboxing and has taught me to love it too. I’m really grateful for that because I’ve definitely found something I love to do and really enjoy. She offers great classes every week and focuses on really getting the basics down so no one gets hurt.
I LOVE the staff here at Green Mountain at Fox Run. I’m winding down my stay here and just like they’ve helped me all along they are now helping me prepare to leave. I’m getting a little worried about it, just like I was to come out here. I know it will be a good thing, but changes can always work up a little bit of anxiety within me. I know I’ll have to find a kickboxing class at home to help take care of that. ;)
How to Get Started in Kickboxing
Obviously I’m a huge fan of kickboxing and use it as my cardio pretty often. It’s one of my favorite forms of cardio and is a great alternative to something like running or biking. It’s also a great compliment to add to your current exercise routine.
There are a few different ways to try kickboxing
- Go to a class at your local gym
- Find a dedicated kickboxing gym for training
- Do a kickboxing workout DVD at home
All the options are great and will lead you to torch calories and get a great workout in.
If you do decide to do a kickboxing workout at home, I recommend trying one of the following DVDs.
Jillian Michaels Kickbox FastFix
Jillian Michaels offers kick butt workouts no matter what style she is using. Her kickboxing workouts are especially tough considering her background in martial arts. She will whip your butt into shape with kickboxing in no time!
Billy Blanks is the kickboxing DVD master. His kickboxing DVDs sold into the millions and introduced so many people to the concept of kickboxing. If you want a great place to start I highly recommend him!
10 Minute Solution – Kickbox Bootcamp
The 10 minute solution workout DVDs are a great option for anyone that doesn’t have a lot of time. If you want to try kickboxing but only have a few minutes every day, I’d recommend trying out this kickboxing DVD to start.
Enjoy your kickboxing!
FIRST!
I’ve always wanted to say that…heh.
Green Mountain looks awesome. I am so glad you’re enjoying it there. Too bad it’s coming to an end, but you’ll do fine at home. :)

Haha! I don’t think being first on my blog is as exciting as it is other places with a lot more comments. But cool!! Go you!!
It is awesome. I’m sad that it’s over too, but I’m going to enjoy the heck out of my last two weeks and be happy in the fact that my future is full of some awesome things. :)
I would LOVE the chance to spend some time at Green Mountain, but it’s so expensive. I think the videos on Youtube & the blog will help me feel as if I’m there, when I’m not. Do you know if the offer and “scholarships” to help pay for the costs?
I think you’ve got the right idea – savor each moment of your last 2 weeks and don’t spend even a second worrying about what will happen when you get home. You will be able to do it!

Nope, too perky. I’d be sorely tempted to kick her, and then she’d drag me out to the parking lot and superfoot me to the skull. Thanks but no thanks…
.-= Jack Sh*t´s last blog ..Last Pants Standing =-.
Loved the video, me and Tina watched it, she has one of the exercise balls and she is going to try that, I will wait until I have a little more ambition to try kickboxing.
Someone should take Jack out to the parking lot and kick the sh*t out of him, maybe it would improve his overall outlook..
Take care my sweet, see you in a few weeks, everything will be fine, in no time at all you will be off in a new direction, and I will check to see if there are any kick boxing classes available here.
MOM
I love love love boxing. It gets the agro out, you feel badass all day and lord help anyone who tries to ‘bring you down’.
One of the people I’ve done fight training with is a woman who goes by the name of Emazon (was a ‘suprise trainer’ on Australias Biggest loser this year and basically scared the hell out of the nation because she was that tough. She’s awesome) and she calls it “spreading your wings”
It is sad that things are winding down for you at Green Mountain but as you say – there is future just full of awesome things waiting for you. :) It’s been great to read about your experiences – thank you so much for sharing them!

Jack is always so funny!!!!
What an awesome experience for you! You will carry this forever & you are on your way… where, who knows, but it will be great!
OK, testing the thing about how I have to make a second comment for my post to show up…. don’t understand why…. happens at Fit to the Finish too.

Kool thanks mary the only kickboxing ive been to is the one I go to, so it was interesting to see what it looks like in other classes. Ours is a little different. I doubt my teacher would let me take a video though! My teacher is like a chihuahua on a billion coffees, she has more energy than I’ve ever seen anyone have ever.
And, great… I always thought it was weird that your blog didn’t send other comments to my inbox after I comment, like all other ones do. I missed that feature because its hard to remember to go back and look later, and im always interested in reading what everyone else said.

Great video!
For some reason, they keep rejecting my application to Green Mountain. I’m not sure why. ;) Probably for the best though because Jen look like she might kick my butt.
Enjoy your last two weeks.

@Bella
Everyone I’ve met here has said it is worth it. I’ll check and get back to you about scholarships… I really don’t know about that. But yeah, it is a great place. I’m glad I got to come and got to share my experiences.
@Jack
Watch out, my mom AND Jen are gonna kick your ass.
@Mom
Thanks! I will definitely do kickboxing while I’m at home, but I won’t make you go.
@Annie
It’s so awesome, isn’t it? I think I crave that badass feeling. It’s a high for me. Love it.
I’ve enjoyed my experiences here sooo much. I’m glad I could share with everyone!
@Jody
Jack always has a joke. Ha. Ha. Ha. …. I don’t know why you blog doesn’t work well with comment luv. Sorry!
@Merri
“a chihuahua on a billion coffees” – that’s hilarious!! Jen is pretty excited all the time herself. I can’t wait to try out other classes and see how other instructors teach!
Yeah, I totally do that on other blogs because I read and comment on a lot of them and forget to go back. I just never noticed mine didn’t since I always checked the comments. So now it’s all good.
@Dr. Kal
Do you need a new prescription? It is women only, sorry. Hehe. Jen could kick your butt… she is freaking tough!!
Oh that looks like fun! And she’s right, anyone can do it.
.-= Hanlie´s last blog ..Diabetes: You Have a Choice =-.
Oh, it was good to see Jen again…I did like kickboxing while there…limited access to classes here, but hey there’s always DVD’s.
I love kickboxing too! Around here there are NO classes. Apparently it isn’t very popular! I’m totally jealous! It’s really REALLY fun!
This video is awesome! I have no coordination so it’s helpful to see the moves broken down.
Thanks for sharing, Mary!
.-= Joanna´s last blog ..As if! =-.
@Hanlie
Really anyone can. She has taught it everywhere – nursing homes, for blind people, at colleges, everywhere.
@Julie
Yeah! It sucks living in a place where you can’t take classes, but you can definitely do dvds. I probably will end up doing it on my own because I can’t get a gym membership.
@Laurie
That sucks! Where do you live? It is definitely more popular some places than others. At home some gyms offered classes and others didn’t, just because of the location and people didn’t want it. Seems to be more popular in urban areas.
@Joanna
Coordination comes with practice, believe me!
Cool stuff! And I finally have a blog to link to! :D
I, too, love kickboxing. It really makes me feel strong and powerful. I do lots of Denise Austin workout DVDs and, from the looks of it, she seems to be a big kickboxing fan as we..

Awesome! I was wondering when you were going to hop on the band wagon and get a blog! I can’t wait to check it out!
I miss you guys! I miss Jen’s classes. I miss you Mary!!!! Thanks for the video – keep up the good work. Hugs and Kisses
i may have to try this kick boxing malarkey even thought it scares me to death!
