Are you satisfied with your job? If you are, you might discover you are part of a large percentage of people who are satisfied at work.
From the Kiplinger tumblr:
47% of American are completely satisfied with their jobs. Only 1 in 10 people are not happy at work.
That’s an interesting statistic I think. I really feel for the 1 in 10 who aren’t happy at all at work because that’s a tough place to be.
My Experience With Job Satisfaction
I was completely satisfied with my last job. My bosses were great and my role fit my skills and what I love to do. It’s pretty exciting and I’m happy to work at a place that is encouraging this professional development on my part.
I worked for a small business and I felt very invested in it’s success. I’ve gotten several raises, better benefits, and money to pay for professional development in the form of books, courses, and conferences. Overall it has been a very positive experience and I felt immense job satisfaction.
Job Satisfaction Comes And Goes
At my last job I’d there for a while and weathered the storms of getting paid late and other issues that made me less than satisfied with my job.
Job satisfaction can depend on a number of different situations and factors.
Your satisfaction with your work can decline for many reasons:
- working with people you don’t get along with
- boring and tedious work
- lots of meetings that get in the way of true work
- bureaucracy that makes it hard to accomplish change
Those are a few of the reasons why you might be unhappy at work and suffer from unsatisfying work.
Current Job Satisfaction
Currently I work mainly for myself online with a few side jobs here and there in the real world. I’m not rich but my job satisfaction has risen immensely since I started blogging for my main income.
I have so much more pride in my work and care so much more about what I’m doing. I also love that I am the one who makes all the creative and business decisions.
It’s scary and thrilling at the same time! I’ve never learned so much than I have when working for myself.
Of course there are still negatives to working for myself that create some dissatisfaction. For instance, it is hard to make this work without a guaranteed paycheck. Variable income is hard to budget and blogging income can be very inconsistent. With freelance writing the money may not even come at all.
However, even with the negatives that come along with being an entrepreneur, I am still incredibly thrilled with the job and the direction that I’m taking. It’s so much more amazing to create something from nothing!
