As I posted on Instagram yesterday:
Took a kickboxing class.
Kicked my butt.
Felt awesome.
Hurray.
I’ve taken kickboxing classes before but it has been a while since the last one.
The last time I did anything related to kickboxing was back when I was doing the AdvoCare Challenge back in March and I can’t even remember the last time I took a class!
This class was also the first class that I took where I used a stand-up punching bag for punches and kicks. I loved that the class was split in half with the first half a more fun, cardio style of kickboxing and the second half was work on the bag plus lots of ab work. It was a great mix.
During the class we did lots of:
- jumping jacks
- squats
- burpees
- mountain climbers
- steps
- running in place
- jumping in place
- punches
- kicks
- shadowboxing
- planks
- crunches
I pushed myself to keep up and go hard with lots of power behind my punches and kicks. The instructor was great with her encouragement to the class so it helped me push further than I would have on my own. This was especially true during the planks when I wanted to give in and quit – but like the instructor kept saying, “you can do anything for 10 minutes.”
It ended up being one of the best workouts I’ve had in months.
At the end I was covered in sweat, my muscles were already feeling it, and I was elated. I left the gym feeling better about my workout and myself than I have in a while. There is something about kickboxing that gets all of your tension, stress, frustration, negativity and junk out. You leave feeling great and accomplished. There are many reasons to love kickboxing but the feeling after a class is my main reason. I always feel sooo good!
If you’d like to try a kickboxing class, check your local gym. I’ve written before about how to get started with kickboxing and highly recommend it again after my re-introduction!
