Larabars Review and Giveaway

May 12, 2011 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

This week I’ve been eating Larabars for one of my daily snacks. They were on sale when I first went grocery shopping after getting back from NZ and I decided to try them out.

Before this week I had only had one and I honestly didn’t like it. Yet so many other bloggers love them and write about them all the time. I figured I had to missing something and my problem the first time was just choosing the wrong flavor.

You know what? That was my problem. I didn’t like that flavor Laraba (it was actually a J?CALAT bar), but I’ve learned this week that I thoroughly enjoy others.

So far I’ve tried:

  • Apple Pie
  • Banana Bread
  • Cashew Cookie
  • Cherry Pie
  • Chocolate Chip Brownie
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
  • Peanut Butter Cookie

And they were all good! I liked some more than others but I did like them all. I like some of the flavors less than the raw energy balls I’ve made before myself. But the cherry pie flavor tasted so much like cherry pie I went insane. I think I’d prefer it to cherry pie to be honest.

They have a ton of other flavors too and I can’t wait to try more.

I’ve been using Larabars this week as a snack and it’s worked out well. It’s a pretty good late afternoon energy booster and they are usually around 200-250 calories so I can easily fit it into my day. Plus they are easy to transport and eat which is a huge plus. I love that it’s made from real food instead of a bunch of chemicals.

The problems I see with these are that it’s basically a healthier version of a candy bar. Sure it’s made from fruits and nuts, but it’s still full of sugar! If you are cutting out or back on sugar these definitely won’t be an option for you. And even if they are something you want to eat it would be really easy to go overboard. For me it’s one of those things where it should come with a “Eat with caution” sign. All things in moderation.

I’m now a fan of Larabars. I see why some of you love them so much. I’ve seen the light!

WIN SOME LARABARS!!!

Now I want to share with all of you. I’m having such a great week with work and fitness and food and everything so I want to share some of the awesomeness with yall. So I’m going to give away five Larabars to one reader. Let’s call this a reader appreciation giveaway because you guys are awesome too!

If you’ve never tried Larabars before this can be your chance to try them! And if you love them you can get a few of your favorites!

All you have to do to win is leave me a comment telling me which 5 flavors (or 1 if you want 5 of the same). The flavors are:

  • Apple Pie
  • Banana Bread
  • Blueberry Muffin
  • Carrot Cake
  • Cashew Cookie
  • Cherry Pie
  • Chocolate Chip Brownie
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
  • Chocolate Coconut Chew
  • Cinnamon Roll
  • Coconut Cream Pie
  • Ginger Snap
  • Key Lime Pie
  • Lemon Bar
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip
  • Peanut Butter Cookie
  • Pecan Pie
  • Tropical Fruit Tart

Notes: The contest isn’t sponsored by anyone because I wasn’t planning to do it until I wrote this post. I am buying and shipping this myself because I think they are awesome. The contest is open to anyone living anywhere in the world. Except maybe the North Pole. Contest lasts until Sunday at midnight, winner announced Monday!

I’ve never tried larabars but after reading your post and all your enthusiasm about these bars has completely made me interested on words alone. Especially the cherry pie flavor, I love cherry pie to begin with and the fact that there’s a bar that tastes a whole lot like cherry pie. My first reaction when I read that was like “nuh uhhhh! omg must get!” Let’s just say curiousity has me hooked and I’m totally purchasing some tomorrow on my way to work! ;)

  17. Sarah says

    May 12, 2011 at 7:12 pm

I see larabars all over the internet and so wished they sold them over here.

Anything with peanut butter is a winner and just imagine a lemon flavoured bar!! I can barely stand thinking about all the flavours I am missing out on. I mean, coconut cream pie? Cherry Pie and Carrot Cake? I cannot go on.

After reading your blog posts about the Larabar, I have checked them out at the store but never actually bought any of them. The only thing stopping me is the calories.. I try to stay under 200 cal. per snack so this is above my usual amount…..but I really would like to try them, maybe having 1/2 now and 1/2 later. :) If I win, I would love to try: Cashew Cookie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Cherry Pie, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter Cookie. Thanks so much! I LOVE your blog Mary, you are an inspiration to me as well as so many others. I started my journey on Jan 1st, 2011 and so far have lost 56 pounds. :) I still have another 50-70 to go.

you saving for the big day ,that’s all. And in my world, every bit helps
          finanically !
Didn’t mean it to come off sarcastic in any way.

I know. It’s just that I’ve actually been really blessed with my new job and an increase in blogging income, so I wanted to share a tiny bit with readers. I know I love the chance to win things like this so I wanted to do that for once. And seriously, it is only 10 dollars. I know you probably didn’t mean to have the tone I read it with.. I just get a lot of those kinds of comments and sometimes I can get too sensitive about them!

  26. Mary says

    May 12, 2011 at 9:03 pm

I love them, but I can only find a few flavors locally (which is weird, because I am in a big city!). I’d like to try Key Lime Pie, Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Coconut Cream Pie, and Lemon Bar!

  35. Fab Kate says

    May 13, 2011 at 12:04 am

    5 eh?

1- Pecan Pie I figure this is the ONLY way I’ll get to taste pecan pie again… ever…

2- Chocolate Coconut Chew because chocolate and coconut or chocolate and almonds are my FAVORITE combination, and I don’t ss chocolate almond listed.

3 – Ginger Snap. Seriously? I LOVE GINGERSNAPS! it’d be great to get the flavor guilt free!

4- Now it gets tougher. I’ve had both apple and banana in other bar brands, and was less than impressed. However, they are two of my favorite flavors, and I’d be interested to try one (or both) to see if they live up to their potential.

5 – now this is tough, because I have to choose between cashew cookie and the chocolate chip brownie… but I gotta go with the cashew cookie, only because it’s different. I get a lot of bars that are chocolate.

Are they full of fiber so they will fill you up, too? Any good for appetite control? And….do the two dots by the ‘A’ mean it has to be pronounced a certain way? Now I’m going to wonder all night how to pronounce this name!

Thanks for doing this giveaway Mary, I reckon my key interests would be peanut butter chocolate chip, coconut chocolate chew, chocolate chip brownie, banana bread and pecan pie but they all sound pretty good though I’m curious about their texture, if they;re a protein bar type thing.

    1. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip – I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE anything that has to do with peanut butter. Absolutely anything. so this is definitely number 1 on my list.
    2. Peanut Butter Cookie – for the same reasons stated above.
    3. Pecan Pie – the one and ONLY pie that I like…yes, that includes fruit pies too.
    4. Ginger snap – Yum!!
    5. Chocolate Chip Brownie

    I hope I win!!

I’ve never tried a Larabar, although I’ve read about them on tons of blogs…if I win, I’ll let you pick the flavors! You can send me the ones you liked the best! Thanks Mary!

I live in England and it makes me unbelievably sad that we do not have these.

I’d love to try them all, but in particular: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Cherry Pie, Carrot Cake, Cinnamon Roll and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

Like some of the others I have heard about Larabars on a few different blogs now and in fact just this morning I googled them to see where I could buy them to try! Unfortunately they are not available in stores here (Scotland) which was kind of disappointing cause they sound pretty awesome :D

If i am lucky, i would love to try

    – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
    – Chocolate Coconut Chew
    – Carrot Cake
    – Chocolate Chip Brownie
    – Lemon Bar

Thanks for the opportunity Mary :)

I only recently tried Lara bars and I LOVE them! They are definitely one of my favorite bars, right up there with Clif bars.

Five flavors…..hmmmmm, that’s hard since they are so good but here’s the best try I can work out.

    apple pie
    carrot cake
    coconut cream pie
    key lime pie
    ginger snap

Are you still hosting this giveaway? Or has it closed? I hope it’s still open because I LOVE Larabars. I would love to try the chocolate chip brownie, chocolate chip cookie dough, peanut butter chocolate chip (can you tell I like chocolate?), & blueberry muffin. I have never seen blueberry muffin in stores that I shop at. I would love to try it. Thanks so much for hosting!
