Let The Training Begin!

I mentioned earlier this month that I wanted to get back into running and try for a half marathon. I signed up for the St. Jude half marathon (with the mindset that I could later change to a 5k in that race if training went horribly) and decided to raise a bit of money for the awesome hospital (please donate, they charge families nothing for life-saving care! heroes.stjude.org/maryinmem).

After a break for moving to a new place, this week I started my training plan!

I’m using a Run/Walk Beginner Half training plan through the RunKeeper app.

My first run/walk session was excellent! I felt great and extended it a bit. I was enjoying Pandora and hanging out with JuJu so I went longer and further than expected. I actually knocked out the first two workouts which was great cause I forgot the original start date.

It felt great to be moving outside again! It felt even better afterwards!

Last year I worked my way up to and beyond a 5k but never got to the full half marathon distance. I’m not sure how it will go this year but I’m feeling optimistic at the beginning. At the very least I’m excited to start doing more 5ks and running through different parts of the city! It’s one of my favorite ways to explore.

Anyone else training for something? Good luck!

A half marathon is on my bucket list……this year however, I’m aiming for a 10k. Ha ha ha…I’m such a wimp…I should just bite the bullet and do the half!

It is a good plan to run a 10K first and a real good plan to train well before doing your first marathon. My youngest daughter is a very athletic person – skis up the mountain to ski down (literally) and can hike 30 miles in a day with a 22 lb backpack. But she tried a half-marathon without training properly and really was in trouble at the end of the race. She had not conditioned herself for such a high level of intensity. She does endurance well … now she is turned off by marathons and leaves them to her older sister. Too bad…they could have enjoyed doing it together.

I’m not really training for anything right now. I’m not really into racing. But I think it’s excellent you are. Better to be up and doing something than nothing! I’m thinking I’m going to get back into the weights. I just need to get back into a good routine and do it! Kick butt and I look forward to your updates. :D

I’m training for my first 5k in September and I’ve never been a runner or even tried, but I can’t believe what a difference training for something has made in my workout routine!! I’m proud of you for signing up for another race and staying committed. Suuch a good cause! P.s. You’re looking great! :D

GOOD LUCK! A half-marathon is definitely on my fitness bucket list. Working my way back up to a 5k, for now! :)
