We bought our house a year ago this month!
To celebrate I’m working on finishing different rooms and sharing them via my YouTube channel. Today I’m touring the living room!
I focused the tour around what we spent because we’ve worked on keeping our spending low this past year to make sure we could afford our Alaska trip. We are also aiming for free and frugal items to decorate our house while we focus on paying off debt.
Most of our living room furniture was free from hand me downs thanks to very generous friends/family/coworkers or frugal things purchased on sale.
Furniture mentioned:
- Side table
- TV stand
- TV is 60 inch which I called a 55″ in the video
Free furniture/hand me downs:
- beige couch
- green loveseat
- wood rocking chair
- long wood table
- coffee table
- side table
- globe
Lots of items were gifts:
- the teal throw
- games and basket
- basket with pillows and blanket
- grizzlies hanger
- name sign
- picture
- candle and holder
The sound bar is a family members I believe and the gaming systems are my husband’s he has had for a while before we started living together. I forgot to include those in the video because… I don’t think about them.
We don’t keep a lot of knick knacks around so you’ll notice we don’t have a ton of storage or shelving. Too much clutter can be bad for mental health so I stick to a simple style and simple living in terms of decorating. I’m considering a storage bench to add storage and extra seating for when people come over. That way at least any clutter will be out of sight.
I do love pillows though so there are plenty of those in the living room! That is probably my favorite thing to buy in terms of decor and I ran with the blue and greens here. I think a couple more solid color pillows might be bought eventually but I’m currently quite happy with the look of our living room pillows.
One thing I do want to purchase is a large, colorful rug for under the coffee table area. I’m hoping to find a pretty one that will work for a while since we plan to remove the carpet in this room and put down hardwood floors. So far I haven’t found the perfect rug in the budget so it’s an eventual buy item.
This is actually the only room in the house I don’t intend to paint any time soon. The whole house was painted this color but I’ve slowly been painting other rooms to fit better with my style. I’m not a beige lover so getting rid of the boring walls was a must do in many rooms. However, the couches and decor in the living room fit well enough that I’m able to live with the wall color until we reach the point of wanting to buy new couches. It’s going to be a while!
Thanks for watching!
