In May I had a huge realization that more money is the key to most of our dilemmas and I personally could earn more money. At first I thought I needed to go back to work full time and hit the overtime hours but my husband reminded me that the time I have with Penny at this age is precious… and I can earn more online than I can selling my time at my day job.
Growing my online income is so important to my current financial goals and that focus matters so much to my family right now!
Why Share An Online Income Report
I’m sharing my online income reports as a YouTuber (my main priority these days even though I started years ago as a blogger) to show people that it is possible to make money online. Lots of people want to know how much small youtubers make and if you can make money from a small YouTube channel.
I’m a small YouTuber that started just so I could share videos of my Alaska vacation, but it’s turned into so much more than that.
My original goal was to earn at least $600 dollars a month to help pay for the additional daycare expenses for my daughter. I knew that earning money online was possible because I had done it once before as a blogger and I had seen hundreds of others do the same and more. If people could earn tens of thousands a month online, surely I could earn $600 a month.
While I’m not earning a full time income online I am happy to show that I’ve grown my income to hit that goal each month and I’ve been able to help a lot of people along the way. It’s amazing that we can earn money creating and sharing content online.
Previous Income Reports
If you’re interested in past income reports, you can see my last few here:

As you can see, my income in 2019 has been trending much higher than my income last year. I’m consistently earning $700-$800 a month when I was only earning $300-500 last year.
Seeing these numbers in this format helps me to see the growth I’ve already had and inspires me to keep growing.

This is the amount earned in May 2019, before any fees, expenses, or taxes.
That means I don’t keep all of it it and at least 25% will be gone before it hits my bank account. I also won’t be paid all of it in the month it is earned since each source pays out at different times.
What I Worked On In May 2019
In May I worked on a few different priorities all designed to keep growing the online income I’m already generating.
In May I worked on consistently creating videos for my YouTube channel. While I don’t create a blog post for every video, I still want to make sure I’m creating content because every video is an opportunity to earn money and for more people to find my channel.
Some videos I create take a lot of work and others can be created in 20-30 minutes from start to finish. I like having the variety on the channel but even with doing some easier videos it is still a lot of work. After working a full day and going to the gym, sometimes I just don’t want to make videos and that can affect the consistency in a negative way.
I’ve not set myself a schedule for content but instead am aiming for a minimum of 3 videos a week. This is a pretty good level of content and something that feels achievable for me. I’d love to get to 5 videos a week or even daily but I’m happy with setting my goal at 3 per week now while I’m working just under 40 hours a week.
Took a course.
I decided to invest in myself and my business to get to the next level in May which means I signed up for and took my very first course! I already am earning a small income with affiliate marketing but I wanted some guidance for how to take that to the next level, so I signed up for Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
I worried that it wasn’t going to be beneficial enough to justify the cost since I wasn’t a newbie, but I’ve been happy with the course and the information I learned. I did learn some new things and picked up some strategy ideas that I hadn’t come across before. I’m praying that these things when implemented can take my affiliate income to that next level.
I started the course at the end of May, so nothing has been implemented yet. It was simply the fact that I finally decided to invest in myself by taking the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course instead of feeling like it wasn’t worth it or I couldn’t afford it.
Started designs for Etsy shop.
I also started working on the beginnings of an Etsy shop that I plan to open in June. I worked with my father-in-law on some illustrations for debt payoff charts and plan to sell these as printables. It’s something I personally love using in my own journey so I’m happy to share another possibility for people.
I’m also playing around with other potential options. I’ve been making paper flowers for years now, could I sell those? Or the patterns to them? I’ve been using stickers in my planner for a long time, could I make and sell stickers? There are a ton of options that I can explore in the coming months.
Just getting started on some products I can sell is exciting and I’m thrilled to open up another source of income for future income reports. Even if it’s not a huge success money wise I’ve learned that every little bit adds up!
May 2019 Online Income Wins
Time to celebrate some things that went right with online income in May!
$100 in a day.
Yep, I earned over $100 in one day. This is not the norm for me obviously, but it has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of growth in online income.
If I currently earn $10 or more each day, why couldn’t I earn $100 or more each day? If I can earn $100 in a day, why couldn’t I earn $100 every day? Doing something once makes it much more likely that I can repeat and reproduce that success.
Test, win, reproduce, repeat. Seems like the equation to online income success.
Income over $800.
Like I’ve mentioned, my first goal was to get to earning at least $600 a month, which represents what we pay in daycare costs each month (even though it now is directed at our student loan debt snowball).
I’ve been hitting that amount and more each month for this whole year. Hitting over $800 in the month of May reminded me that I can achieve the goals I set for myself and I just need to keep raising that bar.
The next bar of online income is a nice consistent $1,000 a month number. Can I do it? I think I can.
It’s great that leaving the month of May one of my big wins is feeling motivated.
For so long I struggled with the motivation to work on anything related to online activities. I let the income I did generate dwindle to nothing and failed to capitalize on past successes all because I was unmotivated. While I know that motivation is fleeting and not reliable, it really does help.
I’m incredibly motivated to keep working on this online income thing. It’s a puzzle I know can be cracked (I’ve seen people do it). This is something I plan to keep working towards until I figure out how to hit the goals I want to achieve for myself.
May 2019 YouTube Income
My YouTube income was consistent this month. I’ve heard from several creators that they had bad months in May for Youtube revenue but I’m lucky to have hit a very similar number to April.
In May, my channel grew by 274 subscribers. This number isn’t incredibly large but it shows consistent growth. Most channels grow rapidly by having a video or two go viral and I know that could happen at any time. But I’m very happy with the current rate of steady upwards growth until that next spike of subscribers occurs.
I improved my impressions click-thru-rate in May by focusing on creating better thumbnails for videos. This rate measures how often viewers watched a video after seeing an impression. I knew I had room to grow here so I went back and picked some of the most popular videos I had that had slowed in growth and then made them better thumbnails.
What I’m Working On Next
So what’s on tap for June? I’ve got a few things planned:
Start my Etsy shop. June is the month where I’m planning to stop stalling and take the plunge to open my Etsy shop! This is something I’ve been working on behind the scenes and it’s finally time to really do it and actually offer things people can purchase.
Implement what I’ve learned. After taking Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing I had pages and pages of notes and ideas to implement. While everything won’t be immediate I plan to start working on the strategies I noted.
Update my other channel. I have two channels but one gets very little attention. I’d like to at least start making 1 video a week or every other week there. I get less watch time and a lower CPM on that channel but there is a large potential for growth and all the videos are evergreen.
Consistent video production. At least 3 videos per week on my channel between budget videos, car chats, and weekend vlogs that I’m currently doing to work on improving my editing skills.
