Last week I had a day where I could eat lunch anywhere in East Memphis so I decided to try out Lyfe Kitchen that opened earlier this year.
Lyfe Kitchen has a great story and mission to be more than just a place to eat with focus toward health, community, and sustainability.
Lyfe Kitchen is a casual concept with high-quality and flavorful food. They use local and sustainably sourced ingredients combined with extraordinary flavor.
Basically it sounded amazing and I knew I had to try it. I’ve been seeing photos on Instagram and Twitter from friends who’ve been there so I wanted to join the fun.
The restaurant itself is very cool. There is outside patio seating, large tables, small booths, bar seating and lots of funky furniture. The vibe is very light and bright and positive. There are quotes about food around the restaurants which was interesting to see and read.
I went in with a plan for what I wanted to eat and then ordered something completely different when I got to the counter. That rarely happens for me but it was exciting and fun!
I ended up ordering a flavored water, fish sandwich, and brussel sprouts side to eat while I was working.
CUCUMBER MINT: fresh cucumber juice, mint, lime, agave
BLACKENED MAHI: crunchy romaine, tomato, onion, avocado, lemon, caper mayo on ciabatta, gluten-free upon request
ROASTED BRUSSELS & SQUASH: with dried cranberries, dijon vinaigrette
This was all so good! For the amount of money you pay for your meal it’s a delight to get food that is thoughtfully put together and very flavorful. I loved having the perfectly cooked vegetables as a side.
This was also my first time eating capers. I actually didn’t even know what capers were so I googled them while waiting on my food and learned they are pickled flower buds. They add a salty element and I totally see why they are used so often with fish. The caper mayo perfectly complimented the mahi.
I’m already planning my next trip by to Lyfe Kitchen to try out some of the other menu items I’d like to eat.
If you’d like to go there, find a location near you! They are in several different cities throughout the US.
