So a few people told me that they liked watching my videos and that I should do more of them. Of course I had no idea what to talk about, so here are some thoughts lately that I’ve had about giving up, trying, and how this journey never ends.
I guess I get a little bit reflective every June because it’s when I finally decided six years ago to stop what I was doing and care about losing weight. A lot of you have only been around for the last few years where I got depressed again living at home after college and regained what I originally lost. But for me, this all began six years ago, before blogging, before the internet, before I had anyone to rely on but me. And that decision I made to finally care is the best one I ever made and I continue to celebrate it and reflect on it each June. I’ve come a long, long way both mentally and physically since then and I’m glad.
:)
And of course, it’s time for some awesome links I ran across this week:
Merry Go Round of Healthy Living Blogging Awesomeness!!
Healthiness:
Roni’s note to herself this week was really a note to all of us:
STOP doubting yourself. Just stop. Half the battle is won with confidence.
She also had a great post about how trying to get skinny will keep you fat. (Yeah, I loved her posts this week.)
Jess wrote a post about exercise vs. training. She no longer exercises, but trains for things. It’s a whole new mindset that I think is really awesome.
JackSht has some encouraging words (and note cards) for the bad days.
Lyn, aka Escape From Obesity, one of my favorite weight loss bloggers ever, reached 198 pounds and has lost 80 lbs total. She is one of my inspirations and I really love that she is really succeeding now.
Blogging:
Matt just published 21 tips health bloggers need to know. It’s got a few good tips, so check it out.
There’s a new fitbloggin video up about how to pitch traditional media.
Then of course, as always there is my guide to creating a better health blog. I still get lots of awesome comments about the ebook each week because people buy it and find it really useful. I want to start sharing those comments because it makes me feel really great that people are learning from my work!
“You should check out @amerrylife ebook for health blogs, I found it super useful already.” – Andrea, from A Cake For A Wife
“I couldn’t have done it without your eBook: http://bit.ly/aIrGCd Highly recommended to anyone trying to start a blog…” – Kevin, from lollujo.net
It’s so wonderful to get that kind of feedback about the ebook! :)
My video above about never giving up on being healthy could also go for anything you do in life. If you want to be a famous blogger or do an ironman or travel to every country in the world – whatever you want in life you have to pursue it without giving up. I’m finally learning that lesson and I hope most of you already know it. It’s not worth it to give up on yourself and your dreams.
And now, I’m off to have a great weekend helping my friend move and celebrating her birthday! I’ll be back on Sunday with my weigh in (ohmygoshaweighinafterbirthdayfestivities!). Have a great weekend! :)
Hey thanks for the shoutout :) I love your blog too!
I appreciate all the links. It’ll give me some good reading for the weekend. Thanks!
I’d agree with not giving up. If you look back through history at all the people who succeed because they never gave up. Sometimes they might not have been the brightest or richest but they got where they were by staying the course.
I’d say if you’re going to give up anything it should be “giving up!”
Big chances can be scary, but they are so worth it. Go take some of your own awesome lady!
I’m so proud of you for never giving up. That’s the biggest thing ever. Yeah, we all slip. Yeah, we all have bad days. But when we don’t give up, when we continue the fight, that’s when we make a difference. Not for the world, but for ourselves and the people we love.
I admire that tenacity that you have. You are awesome!
I was at church last night a the pastor, who had a brain tumor in Bali came to speak to the church after spending 1 year in rehab. They had to take a chunk of his skull out after the tumor operation due to the fact that is was swelling beyond the bone capacity.
He said ‘NEVER GIVE UP’.
There are moments when we may have an amazing beginning and the middle sucks. We want to give up. Quit. But we can’t. Thank you for writing about this, cause as you know life and the blog world holds a carnage of people who stopped living their dreams before they started or in the middle. You’re doing amazing things Mary.
I’ve seen you on Twitter and thought I would stop by. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on not giving up. I cannot wait to check out your ebook.
I love the never give up video.
Do you know that Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. WHen asked about it , he responded he did not fail 10,000 times he just found 10,000 ways not to do it. :)
Slip ups are just one step in the process, they happen to make us stronger. Never give up, your journey has been a fantastic one and it’s great that you are sharing it with us.
You are so right! I feel exactly the same way… For me it’s about learning new skills and then learning to apply them in all situations or circumstances. And it doesn’t matter how long it takes me, since I’ve got my whole life ahead of me. I don’t have to be “perfect” by next Tuesday.
Great post, Mary!
I agree with you and the rest that giving up is not an option and for those of us who seem to be blessed with this weight problem it will never end. You are one of my inspirations for trying again.
That’s was so true. It’s not a fad diet you try for 2 weeks, it’s something that must last forever! Even after you reach your goal. I just hope that people would get this, because without this realization people keep on failing and quitting!
Thanks Mary for reminding us again. I find that the hardest part in supporting others is trying to get the message through that this is for the rest of your life. this is not just losing weight in 3, 6, 9, 12 months and then you are magically at your goal weight, never to have to struggle or think about it again. No. This is forever. So we may as well accept it, embrace it, and work on it every single day. And never, EVER, give up!!
(I have to remind myself sometimes too! Some days I WISH it were the other way around, but I know the truth is that it’s a daily and forever effort!)
