Today’s move more motivation focuses on looks. On the first list of ways to motivate yourself to exercise, #3 was think about how you’re going to look. It was an excellent tip for people motivated by visualization.
Aish left an awesome comment on the post regarding this particular thread of motivation. He said:
You know, I think the being attractive thing is a real motivator. I was speaking with some people in the gym, and no one would admit that they were there for vanity reasons, it was all about feeling healthy. It was only when I suggested that vanity had gotten to me and I wanted to look better that there seemed to be a mini-explosion and everyone finally “came out” about wanting to look good. Its just for some reason we won’t admit to being even a tiny bit vain!
Looking good is not the first motivation anyone will ever admit to, but it usually is the main motivation behind their weight loss. We always claim to want to lose weight because we want to be healthy and, hey if it happens we wouldn’t mind looking better too. But honestly when most people get real about it looking good is the main motivation and getting healthy comes in a distant second.
So with that thought in mind, here are a few ways to muster up some exercise motivation by thinking about looks. Don’t feel shallow or vain if these motivators work…. you will be getting healthy in the process too.
Looks Related Ways to Motivate Yourself To Exercise
- Use your before picture. You often won’t remember how far you’ve come in your weight loss journey and the pictures of where you started will motivate you to keep going and make your body look better.
- Listen to others commenting on how good you look. Once you start losing weight and people notice, the will start commenting on it in a positive way. When someone notices the changes it will make you feel good, trust me. It will make you want to work out even more.
- Focus on an upcoming day at the beach, or a reunion. This types of events carry a blatant desire to look good when you will be in front of others. Use this motivation to exercise more and workout harder.
Great blog and very motivating. I read about your blog on another weight loss blog (kimkinsdiet.blogspot.com). I’ll visit again soon. Happy losing!

I’ll be the first to admit that vanity is a main motivator for me. I want to feel sexy when my clothes are on but ALSO when they’re off. Hello!?!
But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a bit of plump to the booty. I’ll keep the booty.

I think health should come first…but sadly looking mighty fine always beats it off the list and takes top spot.
When I coach people how to lose weight, I always ask “What are your top 3 reasons for wanting to lose weight?” Whatever the reasons are, post it somewhere you will see it often so you will never forget.
I am new to your blog and look forward to reading about your weight loss.
Take care!

Yep, vanity is a big part- it’s nice to look good. And I FEEL better when I think that I look good!

Motivation is the key to success, I have a picture of me on the fridge, the biscuit tin, the cake cupboard and it really works. I think it is great motivation for me. I am working hard to lose weight but sometimes have a blip.

I have a different twist on the same theme. I adopted a vegan diet for health reasons, and lost 30 pounds as a bonus. And believe me, I liked looking good. Definitely a mood booster. Now that I can see my abs I work out harder too!

Oh I’m totally up front about it. I started trying to loose weight because I was tired of being embarrassed by how I looked. I wanted to be comfortable with my body, and to be comfortable wearing the clothes I wanted to wear. I also wanted to be healthy, since I was tired of being tired all the time ^_^
