My Fitness Goals – What are YOURS?

October 26, 2009 by Mary

“GOOOOD morning! It’s monday and Im ready for my week. you? whats your ONE BIG GOAL?” via mizfitonline’s early morning tweeting.

It’s always fun to wake up to a question that fits perfectly with what you were already thinking.  And right now I’m thinking about GOALS.

I rewrote my life list last week and am continually adding and refining it as I contemplate the goals I have or even want to have.  I’ve also written about my completed list, or the things that were once goals on my life list but have since been completed.  After MizFit’s tweet this morning I’m not thinking more about my fitness goals and my one big goal for this week.

On my life to-do list I have a section with physical/health/fitness goals.  Those include:

  • Go snowshoeing.
  • Snowboard in 10 different mountain ranges.  (Done 3.)
  • Go kayaking in New Zealand, Alaska, an ocean.
  • Run a 5k.
  • Complete a triathlon.
  • Go on a multi-day biking trip.
  • Do a cartwheel.
  • Find my happy weight.

Good goals, right?  I’m probably going to add quite a few more to this list when I sit down and think about it further.  I know there are things I would like to do that I never even considered before, things that being a certain weight just makes seem impossible, no matter how positive and okay with your body you are.  But I think my time here at Green Mountain at Fox Run’s healthy weight loss program will set me on a path toward goals I previously couldn’t have imagined.

But those are all big goals on that list.  I want to focus on THIS WEEK.  The present.  The here and now.  So I’m going to set a couple goals for this week as well as a big goal.

My goals for this week:

  • Climb the hill 10 + times.
  • Make it to every strength training class.
  • Get 7 – 8 hours of sleep each night.

And my big goal:

  • Beat last week and log more than 12 hours of exercise!  (Also known as don’t be a slacker.)

So there are my goals for this week!  Totally doable considering my situation.  As are my ultimate fitness goals if I just work toward them bit by bit, which is fully what I intend to do.

What’s your one big goal for the week?

    Hmmm … great goals! I loved your life list. I definitely need to steal that idea.

    As far as weekly goals, I’m rebooting after a bit of a stumble with my food/fitness plan so I’m going for easy goals. I’d like to stay on plan all week despite all the activities, to not eat fast food any of those days and to make sure I get at least an hour of exercise every day.

    I wish you the best of luck with your goals! Have a great week! =)

    My goal this week is to get below 20% body fat for the first time in 2009. At last weeks weekly weigh in I was at 20.3%. So hopefully with a bit of hard work this week I will reach my target.
    Then I’ve got the target of going from 20% to 10% body fat, I’m in the zone at the moment. So I’m very confident that I will reach my target. I’m going on holiday to Orlando on friday, so that’s another big motivation to losing a few more pounds of fat this week.

    Good luck and I hope you reach your goals this week!

    Earn a black belt in taekwondo, get under 240 by Thanksgiving, get under 200 in 2010.

    @Dani
    I totally recommend writing a life list. I think it’s a great way to flesh out what you want to pursue in life so you can make it happen. Good luck with your goals this week!

    @Keith
    You are super close! You can totally do it.

    @Tara
    SUCCESS!!

    @Roder
    Under 200 in 2010 is one of my goals too. Maybe I should add that, haha.

    I loved all your lists!!! Amazing, amazing, amazing!!

    I don’t do lists but this makes me rethink that. It kind of scares me as I tend to get down on myself about things I don’t get done OR just seem like will never happen since I am almost 52 now.

    BUT, my one goal for this week is to try not to get down on myself since the age hormones are acting up & that gets me crazy so I need to chill about it. I know this seems lame but when you get here & are working hard to keep it off & they fight you.. well, shall I say more. I guess it does not help that the monthly has turned into the every 2 weeks! Another wonderful part of the change of life! UGH! :-)

    BUT, longer term, I am still trying to be “a reader model” in a fitness magazine. I keep trying.. have for a few years. Have not let the “no answer” get me down yet!

    Although I never called it a “life list”, I do have one. Your post has me thinking maybe I should post it on my blog as well. My long term goal is to be able to call myself and athlete. Mid-term goal is to run a full marathon. My short term goal is to last 5 minutes on the elliptical. Yeah, I have a long way to go.

    I love your goals! You have really portioned them out as some that are attainable very soon, and others that you will continually work for.

    My goals right now are to do a 10K in the spring (knee willing) be more consistent at strength training and learn to hit the baseball with more consistency!!

    Those are such amazing goals. Look at what you have ahead of you. My goal this week is to continue with all of my training for my triathlon. I have NEVER followed through before my training for anything–and this is what I want to prove to myself. I am so excited. Thanks for this post–it reminds me what I want to be doing.

    secret fitness goal: 1/2 ironman next year :)

    @Jody
    Don’t let yourself get down. Make a list. Everything won’t get accomplished, you will change it, etc. It’s your list, not something set in stone!

    “a reader model” in a fitness magazine … I’ve never met anyone with that goal. That’s awesome! I hope it happens… which it will if you keep working at it!

    @Diane
    That was the goal! If I have little stuff to work toward and big stuff in the back too it is easier for me to make things happen. I love your goals! A 10K sounds awesome!

    @Michelle
    Not sure how much of a secret it is now… hehe. A 1/2 ironman sounds awesome! Good luck! I totally know you can do this… get your training done this week girl!

    Great goals. I think I need to do the sleeping one for sure… gah.

    My big goal is to eat according to my body’s needs. Today was successful! Yesterday and the day before and the day before were overeating days. I’m determined to pay attention to NEEDS not WANTS this week.

    You make me laugh.
    Im shockingly working goalfree this week!
    In a way :)
    my goal is to nail a big work deadline (friday) but since I never miss deadlines that feels more like an…..obligation than a goal.

    next week.
    please to ask me again next week

    @Sagan
    AWESOME! Paying attention to the difference between needs and wants in regards to eating is HARD. I need to post about that soon.

    @Miz
    I’m glad I could amuse. ;)
    Yay for goalfree weeks! Well, except for work goals. I’ve got a few of those myself. Hehe. I’ll check in next week!

    @Fat[free]Me
    Thnks. I need to check out your goal list, I bet it’s fantastic.

    I’ve done five of your life list :-) I needed the show shoes when sinking up to my hips in snow in Yosemite, but didn’t have any, lol! After skiing Heavenly Valley a few years ago, I’ve hung up the snow skis, and this Florida boys gonna stick to water skiing!

    Great job so far. Hopefully you’ve incorporated a great eating regime – no refined starches. Once I gave up potatoes, pasta and white rice, it’s a breeze to keep the weight down. Having a list is so motivating – perhaps a reverse bucket list:)
