My Kitchen Needs…

November 9, 2012 by Mary

The newest thing I need to add to my kitchen? A Hello Kitty microwave!

Hello kitty microwave

Just kidding.

I actually really want a slow cooker next. I love making things in a slow cooker. A little bit of prep work is required but then you leave it and come back to a lovely dinner already done! It’s such a handy thing to use. As an adult I finally understand why my mom always used hers so much.

Right now my kitchen needs:

  • A working stove/oven
  • A slow cooker
  • Pot holders
  • More kitchen towels
  • Salt & Pepper

I could probably continue this list for a while but those are the basics that I would love to have right now. After 3 weeks of not cooking I am dying to be able to make a real meal. I’d love to cook a Thai curry or enchiladas or turkey meat loaf muffins. Anything really! I miss cooking.

Most of you already have stocked kitchens I’m sure, but maybe you are missing one or two items….

What does your kitchen need?

If you don’t already have one, I highly recommend a good quality food processor. I use mine all the time! Such a time saver, and great for making bean/veggie burgers!

I second Mary’s suggestion. Also, get a mini one! That’s something I want just to cut onions.

I am thankful every meal that I cook in a real, nice, adult type set of pots and pans I didn’t get from ikea/target special/etc. Worth the splurge when you have the $$ (and we didn’t even go crazy, I got a huge set I love for 200$.

My kitchen needs organization – I’ve bought “replacements” for things and not actually gotten rid of the old stuff. I need to do that… (and a new stove that actually works, but that’s our christmas gift)

No working stove/oven? Eek. I hope you get that fixed soon! Slow cookers, my mother was always worried about leaving something like that going while no one was home, it might cause a fire. I’ll admit, I’ve inherited her fear. My kitchen needs containers. I buy bulk things from the bulk section, like quinoa, couscous, other grains, etc., and they’re all in plastic or paper bags that the grocery store has. I need some sort of organizational containers to store each of them in. Likewise, I need some sort of spice organizer or spice rack, as I can never find what spice I need and I think I have more than one of some kinds. One half of a counter and a whole cabinet are completely overrun with bulk items and spices!

Oh our kitchen needs a whole makeover lol

I can’t think of what we might need, our kitchen is small so there is not much room left for anything. I do have a immersion blender on my wish list but it’s not a necessity.

One of the best crockpot websites I have found is http://www.crockingirls.com. They have a Facebook page too. They give you a shopping list on Friday so you can buy the ingredients over the weekend and then they post a video on Monday to show you how to make the recipe. Check it out. I love my crockpot. I think after you get your necessities out of the way, you must get the hello kitty microwave! So adorable! I’m an avid cooker and a nice set of pots and pans is good to have as previous posted but they don’t have to cost a lot. My favorite set so far has been my Rachel Ray set that I purchased at Kohls with coupons for just over $100. They have held up well and I’ve had them six years.
