There must be something about me. Maybe I’m cursed regarding dental appointments.
I went yesterday. They were rude and embarrassed me and refused to see me even though it was their mistake. So I had to reschedule at a different place for this morning.
3 hours, 3 shots to numb just one side of my mouth, and 3 cavities later… I’m done. Well, done for now. I have to go back tomorrow for some gum work but I’ve at least taken care of the fillings for now.
Luckily I sucked it up after the first failed appointment (that sent me into anxiety overload) and did it before it became a root canal situation. Thank goodness for the small things! It really is important to do these things and not ignore any part of your health and well being. I’m trying these days to have a more holistic view on things and take care of all my body parts and overall health, teeth included.
But right now I’m completely numb on a good portion of my mouth and face hours after my appointment. I’m the numbest I’ve ever been because he gave me multiple shots to make sure I couldn’t feel a thing. That was great but now it makes it impossible for me to eat or drink which is a bummer because I’m super hungry!
Since I’ve got a ton of work/life to catch up on after the dentist appointments took a lot longer than I expected I’ll go now and leave you with the best post dentist video ever.
That kid cracks me up. Kinda reminds me of how I was post wisdom teeth removal.
Have a good day friends!
So are you switching dentists permanently? (I’m the type that would, after that…)
Hope when you un-numb, there’s no pain!
I’m not sure what I’m doing permanently since I’m moving. But I did like the dentist I finally ended up with.
I feel for ya! Last time I went, I got so numbed out that even part of my tongue was numb! It’s the worst, and all you can do is wait it out :-(
Part of my tongue was numb this time! I waited about 6 hours to gain back the majority of feeling. It sucked but at the same time I was glad to not feel any pain.
Well it’s true that numbness is less than fun, but thank God for it because it beats the alternative. It wasn’t that long ago that there was not a known way to numb (YIKES!!), and people actually died from dental care or the lack thereof!!! Now don’t you feel better??? I didn’t think you would–sorry…:(
HA! Actually I do. We are all lucky that we have modern technology and doctors like we do. It’s way better to get a cavity filled (with medicine to help the pain!) than to let it rot and get pulled or kill you. Definitely better.
I love that video! They showed the kid older on the YouTube 20/20 special last week!
Ah, the dentist. I always make them shoot me up a million times cause I eat thru that stuff. They have used tons on me during my appts & 15 minutes on the road home, it has worn off! ;-)
I would publish the name of the first dentist to publicly shame them. ;)
Just kidding. Well, kind of.
Haha. I thought about going to leave a bad review on their online profiles. I still might.
Hi Mary,
I discovered your blog and I’ve really enjoyed reading your story. I’ve dealt with eating disorders in the past and just started a blog of my own. Reading stories like yours helps keep me motivated, so thank you for sharing yours!

Funny video.
I hate the dentist. But I also hated paying that rootcanal bill. So now I try and make all my 6 month appointments.
Yeah, I’m way more likely to go regularly now (when in NZ) becuase I want to keep myself from having to pay for a root canal. Those are expensive!!
It takes me three shots and at least an hour and a half to get properly numb. Unfortunately my dentist forgot this the first few times I had cavities filled (he had to do several) and I have panic attacks whenever I hear a drill. Its good incentive to floss though!
I’m glad I’m not the only one!
Sounds like me! I might stick with this dentist since he is the only one to ever numb me enough that I felt nothing.
I get very anxious at the drill sound too. Eh I hate it.
This is my favorite dentist video:

Glad you got everything taken care of. At least it’s over.
Hahaha. Well I actually have to go back today for a gum thing but hopefully that won’t be nearly as bad.
ahhh milkshakes post dental work.
the only good part :)
