Oh Hey There Arms

Yesterday I was so stressed out I almost broke. Well, I did break a little. I bought a chocolate bar and a granola bar and ate both. It could have been worse.

Being so stressed without a way to get to the gym drove me crazy.

I couldn’t wait to get to the gym this morning for a workout.

I was up at 6 am and at the gym by 6:45. It was glorious, especially since I had the whole free weights section to myself.

I worked out my upper body and did some cardio.

After my workout when I was changing I decided to stand in front of the bathroom mirror without a shirt to examine my body. This was amazing for a couple reasons: 1) years ago I never, ever thought I would do such a thing because I was so scared of anyone seeing my body that I always hid in stalls to change 2) I didn’t notice it before but my shoulders are looking awesome.

Though my arms still have a good bit of fat hanging around (as does the rest of my body) my arm muscles are starting to really show. I hadn’t noticed how my shoulders were shaping up until this morning but they are starting to look defined. And awesome.

Hey there arms, nice to see you looking better!

I love strength training.

A rather good way to start the morning, no? I’m still stressed about wedding stuff (we are back to having no venue) and money (I’m going broke fast despite having a job) but I’m determined to make today a better day. If I could manage to get a kickboxing class – or just lots of punches – in during the day that would be great. I’ve gotta get rid of some stress in a positive way.

I’m off to have an awesome day. I hope you do too!

This post makes me happy. It’s amazing to see the transformation of your body, isn’t it!?

True that! In the past I was so excited about my body changing by losing weight… getting smaller was the goal and so exciting to see. This is a bit different since I’m gaining muscle (weight) but it looks really cool because it changes the body in a different way.

You’ve inspired me to start lifting weights!

Congrats on your arms!! I LOVE that feeling. I don’t lift enough weights to have it show on my arms, but it shows on my legs after a good run.

And don’t stress about the binge…you are aware of it, you were honest about it, and you are moving forward. Progress! :)

What about Maple Grove Farm? Sounds like you can do something low-key there. Also, don’t know what day your wedding is but if places are booked, they may be free on an off time such as Friday night or Sunday afternoon? Just a thought and my best wishes to out to you…

We have a lot of people coming in for it so a Friday or Sunday wedding is really impractical and rude to them. I believe I looked into Maple Grove Farm months ago and they were far beyond our budget. It’s complicated.

Congratulations on being able to see your transformation. It’s always rewarding. Keep up the great work!!

I wish you could get into a kickboxing class. I look forward to my Monday one all week..and Mondays are SO STRESSFUL that it’s actually great that mine is Monday after work. It REALLY helps! I love kicking and punching things, even if it’s only the air! ? yay for muscley arms and shoulders! That’s what I’m working towards (well, not in a bodybuilder way, just a toned way) but it’s been sloooow. I still couldn’t hurt a fly lol. Whenever you describe your workouts you seem really STRONG! Yay!

Me too! There is actually one at my gym on Tuesday nights but I can’t go because of transportation stuff. It’s such a mess.

YES to weights! It does make you look awesome! Mary – you can do this & I hope you find a kickboxing class! Can you invest in a boxing bag for home? Maybe a used one?

I guess. It does matter to us though, the food and other stuff. People tell me I’m not supposed to care, but I do, and I will after the wedding too. Yes, being married is the main point but there are a few other things that do matter and will contribute to us having a good time.

Yeah I’ve come across that idea before but it’s not effective for me. but I know it works for some people who binge for different reasons.

MAN – I wish there was someway I could help with wedding stuff. It’s so stressful – especially when you are on a tight budget. I know everyone says it’s the “committment” and “the person you are marrying” that matter – and that’s true to a point – but it’s still your special day to have a celebration and you want it to be a certain way! Grrrr…

Will your dress show off your awesome shoulders, or are you not divulging any details? ;)

      Thanks. I totally agree.

It will! No more details though. ;)

I still struggle with weight training but my kickboxing instructor has started devoting the last half hour of class to weights so I’m seeing more definition in my arms too. There is nothing like throwing some punches and kicks to get all your frustrations out. I got my ass kicked yesterday at kickboxing and always feel like I could take on the world when I leave that class. Rock on!!

It’s always nice to slow down and appreciate what we have accomplished in our weight loss journey than to keep looking at what we still need to accomplish. Hope your stress levels come down soon and that you have an awesome day.
