THE DAIRY FREE EXPERIMENT
Thanks for all the great comments on the dairy free experiment post. It may or may not have any affect on my breathing issues but it might have a positive affect elsewhere in my life. Who knows? I always think things like this are worth trying. You never know what the outcome might be. Plus it’s fun to challenge myself to change my eating because it makes me more creative in the kitchen as well as paying closer attention to labels and ingredients than I already am. It seems like a win/win as an experiment.
BLOGGING VS EATING
Today I’m in one of those moods where I just want to eat.
And eat.
And eat.
And eat some more. Mostly because I don’t know what else to do with myself on a day with nothing planned.
I’m not though. I’m here. Blogging. Stopping myself from walking into the kitchen by putting up a blog post. I honestly wasn’t going to post today because I had nothing to say. But I realized if I didn’t post something and at least ponder blogging for a while I would end up in the kitchen overeating.
Is it weird that I use blogging to stop myself from eating out of boredom? Maybe that’s why I have so many blogging outlets (well, 3). Finding something you enjoy doing that you can turn to when you need it is great. Thank you for letting me do that. Thank you for letting me ramble.
POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS
Inspired by Kendra and Mara, I’m giving myself some positive affirmations today. Affirmations are mantras we can use as often as we need to change out negative thoughts for positive ones. I’m all about changing the way my brain operates. It’s too easy for me to get down on myself lately so I’ve been working on changing this, or trying to at least. Positive affirmations are a big part of it.
- I am awesome!
- I am beautiful right now.
- My body is amazing and capable and deserves good treatment.
- I am completely worth of all the love I receive.
- I am fun and people enjoy being around me.
- I am in charge of my emotions and my reactions to life events and can respond positively.
- My intelligence in not diminished by mistakes.
- I am capable of achieving anything.
- I do not need a job or a title to give me worth; what I do is worthwhile.
- I can and will succeed in life.
What are your personal positive affirmations?

I need to do this more often…especially when things get rough emotionally/mentally.
Mine would be:
“I lost 100 pounds and I kept it off. I can do anything I set my mind to!”

I don’t really have any daily affirmations, but something similar: I’m always getting bored at work and feeling like it’s so unimportant and drudgery, so whenever I finish something, or do well on something, I make sure to tell myself something like ‘yay! Good job!’ or ‘awesome!’ or (taken from hearing my roommate playing marvel v capcom OVER AND OVER) ‘you’re a-mazing!’. It’s really silly but it makes me laugh and feel better, like maybe being a cube person isn’t important, but at least I’m appreciating myself for trying to do it well! (I say these things in my head, for the most part, BTW…if I started talking to myself that way out loud, my coworkers would prob think/know I’m nuts).

This is awesome! I love the positive affirmations idea! I’ll do mine someday soon!

Yes! I love all of your positive affirmations. They’re all so true and don’t ever forget it. :)
One of mine would probably be..
“I am beautiful. I am perfectly made today, tomorrow, and forever.”

I have a whole page that I read through every day (actually twice a day if I remember!) but the two most important ones are: I open myself to love and happiness; I free myself from fear and anxiety. I sometimes will start singing them to myself. I see the difference in my attitude and life in general every day when I do it.

My life coach and I were just working on some positive affirmations. What we came up with:
I posted them in the bathroom, next to the mirror … and I probably should look at them more often than I do.

The one thing I often tell myself is, “Everything is fine just as it is”. It is something I got from a meditation CD that has been a lifesaver for me in times of stress, worry, unhappiness, etc. (It’s called “River of Tranquility” by Jim Malloy)
Good luck with your dairy experiment – I had amazing results with cutting out dairy, mainly skin problems I had cleared up just unbelievably. And the skin and lungs are part of the same system in the body, so I am sure it will help your breathing problems.

Blogging instead of overeating = WIN! Those are great affirmations.
Hmm, I think mine would have to be ‘even if you think you’re not making progress, things come along just when you need them that show you, guess what…you are!’

I LOVE those! Especially number 6! It is one I am learning over and over and over. I give you HUGE kudos for using blogging as your healthy coping skill to stop the urge to eat and eat!!!! I think blogging, writing is a great tools for us to get out of our head, and distract us from those urges.
I have had to walk away from the fridge several times over this last week and that is OK. I AM capable of being patient with myself. That is an affirmation I have to repeat a lot :)
Thanks for sharing such honesty and writing a wonderful list.

I hate days where I just want to eat. They are the worst. I am glad that blogging is a great outlet for you. I have been trying to find other outlets for myself, as well, to use instead of eating. It has been working for me, too. :)
I love your positive affirmations. I need to make a list like that, too. I had a teacher in high school tell us that if we looked ourselves in the mirror each morning and said positive things about ourselves that one day we would actually start believing them. She was so right.
Hanlie says
I listen to a theta brainwave meditation every day, during which I recite my affirmations.
Zahra Brown says
Yeah, boredom eating sucks. When your mind is bored, the teeth and stomach get ready to work instead. Urgh! Keep distracting yourself! Keep the motivation high! The frustration is worth the euphoria when the boredom eating urges pass.

Yay!! Mary I love these! You know, so many people think that affirmations are hokey, but I have really noticed the difference in my life when I make a concerted effort to think positively (especially when I want to do anything but). Good luck :) xoxox

I am me, and that’s ok.
