Refocus

May 30, 2012 by Mary

I have a solution!

Part of my problem lately – besides PMDD and my mom having cancer – is that I’ve been feeling adrift. So much has changed in the last few weeks and I’ve gone with the flow but I really want to get back to the stuff I love and work towards my life goals… cause those are still important!

So I looked back at some previous posts on my blog, spent some time thinking about it and worked out a list of goals/plans for myself. It’s also a bit of a check in with my yearly goals to see how I’m doing. Just a little chance for me to refocus on what’s important to me.

Week Goals

  • Work on a blog editorial calendar to keep track of ideas.
  • Keep counting calories daily.
  • Do a Nerd Fitness workout twice.
  • Spend time with my bestest friend who is in town!

June Goals

  • Help my mom get through her treatment and in any other way I can.
  • Go to bootcamp class at least once.
  • Work on my cartwheel.
  • Save all my extra pennies for the move to America.

Year Goals

  1. Pay off my remaining student loans as part of plan to be debt free. – I actually just paid off one $5,500 loan recently! I’m down to three smaller student loans to go. This is happening!
  2. Prepare myself physically, mentally, and financially for eventual pregnancy. – Funny, but now mentally I’m way more prepared but financially way less so. I guess that’s what planning a cross world move does!
  3. Achieve a healthier weight (part of goal #2) and body composition. – Soo… I don’t have a scale. And I haven’t done much for this in a month or two. I know I need to check in and get a reality check, so I will do this soon.
  4. Buy a sewing machine and learn to sew clothes (seriously!). – I bought a machine, left NZ, and now am going to sell it for moving money. I will learn once I move to the US.
  5. Read 52+ books. Read at least 1 book per month for health + fitness. – I haven’t read anything since I left NZ so I’m behind by a few books. I’ll probably catch up soon. I am taking recommendations for books though!
  6. Do a cartwheel! – Have not attempted this yet because frankly I’m scared! I forgot about this goal, but I think I will work on it soon.

That actually helped a lot! It’s good to remind myself of what I’m actually working towards right now despite all the other stuff that is going on!

June is going to be a tough month. My mom will go through all her treatment in the second half of the month. I’m going to try to help out where I can especially when she is recovering. Obviously that takes priority over everything else but I still want to try and work towards all these other goals. I’ll check in again at some point with more progress I’m sure! :)

I love that you are using goals to help you refocus. You’ve inspired me to do the same.

it would be so cool to learn to sew so well that you could just see something you like, be able to copy it and look good, and have it perfectly fit. if i could sew like the people on project runway id have the best wardrobe. good luck on your goals.

Cartwheels are easy! Look… there, I just did a perfect one. No, watch… there… I did another perfect one. Okay, watch this: one-handed cartwheel. So easy! Okay… stand back… I’m gonna try to do a no-handed one. I don’t always get this on the first try, so… NAILED IT! I’m a cartwheel machine!

Isn’t nice to see those in writing? ;-) I may join you on the book front. I LOVE to read, but haven’t really done it in so long. I think I’m trying to catch up on blogs and magazines all the time. Maybe for me, commit to one book per month and go from there. ;-)
