The POM Blogger sent me an awesome POM Care Package in the mail!
The care package came with 8 bottles of POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice and a packet of information about the juice.
I liked that the pomegranate juice was both authentic and American. It is 100% authentic pomegranate juice that is all natural and contains no additional sugars, preservatives, colors, or filler juices. It is pomegranate juice and nothing more, which is nice to know. Also nice is the fact that the company’s orchards are located in California’s San Joaquin Valley. I am always a fan of local (or at least national) foods.
Pomegranates History!
* Pomegranates are one of mankind’s earliest cultivated fruits.
* Man first began planting pomegranate trees sometime between 4000 B.C. and 3000 B.C.
* Some scholars now suggest that it was the pomegranate, not at apple, depicted in the biblical Garden of Eden. (Definitely did not know this. Hmmm.)
* Throughout history, the pomegranate has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility, and rebirth. Some cultures also believed it held profound and mystical healing powers.
Why Pomegranates Are Healthy
Pomegranate juice has amazing health benefits proven by the clinical research on pomegranates funded by millions of dollars POM Wonderful has funded in the last decade. Of course these studies all featured people that drank 8 oz. of pomegranate juice daily.
Pomegranate juice is like red wine, similar colors for one, and they are both great sources of disease-fighting antioxidants. Actually, POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice is a superior source of antioxidants compared to red wine. Pomegranate juice comes out on top of drinks ranked according to levels of antioxidants, beating red wine, concord grape juice, cranberry juice, and others. My POM Wonderful Pomegranate Juice Review
I looove the bottles the pomegranate juice comes in. That is the first thing that made me want to try the pomegranate juice. Every time I would see the bottles in the grocery store I wanted to buy one just because they are so cute. I also love the name of the company and the positive way they are trying to market the product and interact with healthy communities.
I liked the taste of the juice. It is not something I would want to drink every day and it definitely is not for everyone. John didn’t like the juice when he tried it. My mom didn’t like the juice when she tried it. And so on. It is not a product that will appeal to everyone because of the taste. However, it still might appeal to these people after they read up on all of the health benefits.
This product is one of those things you just have to try to decide whether or not you like it. If you don’t like it there are a few ways you can make it go down easier, the easiest being mixing it with another sweeter juice. You can even make Pomegranate Margaritas.
Although I liked the taste, I wasn’t converted to a pomegranate juice enthusiast. I don’t think I could drink the 8 oz daily that the study participants all drank to get the health benefits (proven benefits at least… drinking even some pomegranate juice will benefit you!). To me pomegranate juice is a lot like red wine in another way: the taste is decent enough to drink occasionally but its not something I want to drink daily.
I also won’t be drinking a bottle a day anytime soon because I really only drink water. The pomegranate juice has a lot more calories in it (150 for an 8 oz. bottle) than what I normally like to drink. But it will be a good, healthy change of pace for when I just want something different.
Now you know a little bit more about pomegranates than you did before you started reading this. Don’t you feel so much more educated about pomegranate juice?
