Run, Run, Run

Last summer, I was really into running. After going through a breakup running was the perfect outlet. It gave me something to do, something to focus on, and a way to get all the emotions out in a healthy manner. I fell in love with running.

I did a few 5ks and really loved them all (recaps: Forrest Spence 5k, Camp Good Grief 5k, and MRC Recovery Run 5k). I also signed up for the St. Jude half marathon but did not get to participate as it was called off the night before the race.

After the St. Jude race was called off I pretty much stopped running. I’ve missed it over the last few months but have been busy with other pursuits like biking, Zumba classes and recreational softball.

However, I’ve thought about it a lot. I’ve missed it. That’s why the other day I let my awesome friend Rozzie convince me to sign up for this year’s St. Jude half marathon. Even though I haven’t been running. Luckily, it’s 6 months away and I have time to train!

brooks adrenaline GTS 13I did lace up my running shoes and hit the streets last night for my first run/walk session in ages. I’m basically starting from scratch. Luckily this time I’m a few pounds down and have been active in other ways in the meantime.

I’ve also got a running buddy named JuJu who is waay too excited about the idea of going for more run/walk sessions more often. The first one was short but pleasant and we are looking forward to building upon it! I’m also excited to do some group runs and runs with friends in town as well as some 5ks during the upcoming race season.

st jude heroesOnce again, I’ll be fundraising for St. Jude as one of the St. Jude heroes that runs during the marathon weekend.

If you’d like to support a wonderful cause where children all over the world can go to be treated for life-threatening illnesses without being charged a dime, please consider donating here: heroes.stjude.org/maryinmem.

Thank you! :)
