It’s a snow day here!
Technically it’s an ice day, but it basically means the city has shut down on some level. Many businesses decided to close and the schools are all out today. Some people are still working, but many others are working from home or off entirely. My view from the front door this morning sealed my fate for staying home on this particular snow day.
It might not seem like much, but that’s all ice and walking to my car was a slippery slope. I also couldn’t get all the ice off my car! It’s been a cold and rough morning. I prefer to leave the house every day so staying home for even just one day makes me crazy. I used to love snow days and getting to stay home from school, but as an adult I just find them a huge hassle. I’d much rather get out of the house and into a productive environment where I can work. Funny how much your work ethic changes when you are a grown up responsible for bills and other living beings!
Instead I’m working from home where this is my view:
That’s a very icy backyard! JuJu has been out a few times and did not appreciate the cold or the ice. We also went out front to test out my car situation… where we practiced ice skating all the way to my car. It seems as for now we are stuck at home! \
If it’s going to be snowy and icy, I’d much rather have this be my view:
I love snow when I’m in the mountains because snowboarding is one of my favorite activities in the world! But snow at home here in Memphis? It doesn’t lend itself to fun activities or getting outside. Having my sidewalks covered in ice isn’t the best way to start my plan of doing 5ks in 2015. Honestly, with my gym closed and the sidewalks icy, today’s fitness forecast wasn’t looking good this morning.
I decided that doing something was better than nothing, so I’m doing little bursts of activity for my snow day fitness. In between emails and other work activities I’m doing planks, squats, jumping jacks, and more. You know, all those at-home workout things you see on Pinterest workouts. It’s not an extended period of cardio where I feel like I accomplished something, but I know it all adds up. And it’s definitely better than nothing!
Hope you all are staying warm today and getting in your fitness as well!
