The weather here turned cold again and I’m sipping on some mint hot chocolate while blogging. It’s the perfect treat! Cold weather is so much fun when you get to bring out things like that to enjoy.
Currently I’m challenging myself to get more steps by wearing my Polar Loop Activity Tracker and hitting 13,000 steps daily.
I’m doing this steps challenge because:
- I need to move more in my daily life.
- I know the small steps add up to something bigger.
- Small challenges make things more achievable.
- Getting in “steps” is easy but burns calories.
- Using the activity tracker I already own is fun!
So let’s see what I’ve done the last few days according to my Polar Loop!
Saturday Steps
Steps for the day:
- 13,083
Activity for the day:
- 20 minute elliptical workout
- walk with JuJu
- walk around stores, to and from car
Thoughts on the day:
I did things differently on Saturday. I wore my Polar Loop long enough to get 13,000 steps and then took it off. I hit my goal around 6 pm so I took my watch off and didn’t wear it again the rest of the night. It was incredibly freeing to take it off and not have to worry about my step count for the rest of the night. I’m sure I racked up a few thousand more steps that night.
Doing this also motivated me to get in my steps as early as possible. I told myself that if I hit 13,000 steps I could take it off, so I worked harder earlier in the day rather than catching up at night. I’ll probably do this again on the weekends because it’s a lot easier to motivate myself to workout in the morning on weekends. I’ll leave weekend nights for going out and having fun…. without the loop.
Sunday Steps
Steps for the day:
- 8,125
Activity for the day:
- walk with JuJu in morning
- walk around house
- chores
Thoughts on the day:
This was not my best day. I ate something that didn’t agree with me and ended up feeling horrible for half the day. I had planned to go workout after lunch and that didn’t happen because I physically couldn’t do it. Instead I took a nap and tried to shake it off.
Despite feeling bad I did still get over halfway to my goal. I’ll count it as a win because that day was not fun for me, my friends.
Monday Steps
Steps for the day:
- 13,291
Activity for the day:
- walk with juju
- pacing around house
- home workout
Thoughts on the day:
It seems like if nothing else I’m getting better at not getting inactivity alerts. My movement is more spread out throughout the day and I’m moving more consistently. Doing this challenge has been really eye-opening to me about how much I sit and how much I need to take little breaks to walk around or pace. A tiny bit of activity here and there really adds up!
Walking JuJu did not seem appealing because it was cold and misty and dark by the time I got the chance to go. However, I sucked it up and went out and it wasn’t that bad at all. Sure my face was really cold and my nose was sniffly, but it didn’t kill me! Go figure. She loved it and I got more steps for my day… win/win.
I attended a game night that night and to get steps I was a little silly in taking lots of bathroom breaks, pacing when I had the chance, and moving around as much as possible. I don’t think it was noticeable to anyone else but I managed to get as many steps as I needed!
That’s the last few days of steps according to my handy Polar Loop and the dashboard of stats. I’m hoping to keep up the pace and make December a great month leading into the new year.
Hi Mary, I’ve been reading your blog for a few years now and I’ve always enjoyed it in the past. However, I have to say that I’m not enjoying your posts much lately. All they seem to be are generic entries about your Polar Loop (with affiliate links) or other posts filled with affiliate links. I know people have to pay the bills, but I feel like I can’t feel your personality anymore, and it makes reading your blog really boring. You used to share a lot more about yourself which made reading your blog interesting. I really understood your struggles and was happy to see your achievements because you shared everything honestly. I can also understand wanting to be a bit more guarded with personal info, but I think there is still a way that you could balance the two needs of not sharing too much, but also making your blog enjoyable to read. Maybe adding some non-affiliated posts more often would help, on different topics? Anyway, this is just some constructive criticism I thought I would share. Hope you’re doing well.
Thanks for the thoughts Rebecca!
The only thing I have going on currently is the steps challenge which is why I’m posting about it. Too be honest, I’m pretty tired of writing about it so it will probably end now. It’s a great thing to be doing but pretty boring to write about now that I know I can get 13,000 steps every day. I will be working on more posts related to food and things happening in Memphis, but that’s probably about it. I’ve struggled with what to do with this blog because while I want to keep it, the direction is lost. It’s not the same blog as from a few years ago and it’s not going to be. That will mean lost readers, sure, but I don’t plan to go back.
I am not planning to share more personal information or overly personal posts. So if that’s what you want to read, sorry. There are plenty of other bloggers that share that stuff so you can definitely find plenty to read!
