Yesterday was one of those magical healthy days where everything went right.
Okay, it wasn’t really magical but after weeks of being very careless in what I eat and exercising only sporadically for the last week or so, it felt magical. The first day of being healthy feels so great.
I managed to stay in my calorie goal range (I aim for 1800) and get enough protein. Usually when I’m counting calories I notice it’s an either or situation for calories and protein. But yesterday I ate lots of vegetables and lean meats and ended up having a day that worked out perfectly in terms of calories and protein and carbs.
Another good thing about the day was that I didn’t eat again after dinner. Night time snacking can sometimes completely derail me and push me up in calories but I resisted the call of the kitchen once it got dark.
At the gym I managed a lower body strength training session + abs. It was really funny because the weight I started with doing squats was way too low so I moved up with each set and still knocked out a lot each time. I ended up going to about 90lbs and staying there but only because I had already worn out my legs. I’m pretty sure I’ll be moving up again and am relishing in the fact that I’ve got strong legs!
The “first day” of being healthy again always feels a little bit magical, doesn’t it? You feel so proud of yourself and happy that it happened. You tell yourself it’s the start of something new and lasting and important. Something it is and sometimes it isn’t, but it’s nice to think so. I definitely think this is the start of something grand and exciting for me. I guess we will find out in a couple weeks when I weigh and take measurements and see if this one magical day turned into a couple weeks worth of magical days.
Let’s hope so!
Yay one month anniversary!
Oh I agree! And then momentum builds and one day becomes two and more and it feels so great:) My toughest time is always after dinner.
That night time snacking is a tough one to beat – but look at you – one magical day down already! Wishing you more magic in the days ahead. :)
This post made me realize how much I want and need my own first magical day of healthy. But I am having trouble scheduling it, how crazy is that? I clearly need to reshuffle the priorities. Stay tuned-
I’m tuned in! Let me know when it happens! :)
Detoxing/being on-track with healthy eating feels so good! Especially when you’re coming off of a streak and just want to get back into gear.
That’s great! There is something great about getting back to it when you’ve had a few days off for vacation. It’s almost like your body craves the healthy food and hard workouts. I’ll get to do that next week after we get back from Memphis. (Though if this cold persists I’ll be needing to find healthy restaurants because I won’t be able to taste the “good” stuff like BBQ and such. If you have any healthy suggestions, let me know!)
Mary – the magic lives on! :-) It does feel great to get back into it & I am sure you will find what works for you & make it magical in your own way! :-)
