The Red Dress

December 15, 2008 by Mary

I went to a wedding on Saturday and it was great. I wish I felt the same way about the pictures.

I am in the red dress (haha, who isn’t) on the far left. I was one of the hostess/guestbook girls and except for the length the dress I wore closely matched the bridesmaids’ dresses.

I was surprised I even wore this dress. It has been hanging in my closet for over a year since I bought it. I have very few opportunities to wear a dress like it considering  I usually wear tshirts and jeans or my work uniform. The few chances where I could have worn the dress I felt overly self conscious in it and decided to wear something else.

For this wedding I didn’t really think about how I felt (overly self conscious once again). I was told to wear a dress, preferably a red one, so I did.

I don’t think I look completely hideous, but I can’t help but critiquing myself when I look at the photos. I hate my arms, my legs, blah, blah, the negative thoughts go on and on. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that in all the photos I am standing next to GORGEOUS skinny girls.

Eh. Sigh. Its just one of those things.

Oh, but I do love red dresses. I hope one day I can wear one and not think about looking bad in it or in pictures.

I think you look awesome! Why? Because you look happy! That effects how one looks more than 10-20 lbs any day!

You look great in that dress! Seriously!

However, whoever had the bright idea of making the women in the low-cut dresses lean over for the photo should get a finger flick to the forehead!

@Amy: Haha. Not me. Thanks for the compliment, I do hope you check out the rest of the site. :)

@Miz: That day actually is TODAY. Today I feel much better about how I look than I did yesterday. The critical eye is nowhere to be found today.

@SeaShore: I totally agree about the low cut dresses and leaning over. I felt awkward so I was trying to be at the same height level but still lean back so I didn’t have a wardrobe malfunction.
