The Right Direction

June 11, 2010 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

Right now I’m feeling so good and happy and like everything is finally coming together and I’m headed in the right direction. I think visualization and the ability to believe in myself succeeding was something I was missing and really needed to figure out. Now that I have I feel like things are just going to start working for me.

And if feels like they already are. I know I’m losing weight again. I know that I’m getting smaller. I feel it in my clothes, in how I feel, in how my body looks in the mirror. I’m so tempted to go back on my “surprise weighin” in July, because this feels really exciting for me and I want to share it with you all who support me when I need it the most. But I’m a girl of my word, so I’m not going to weigh in this month (I’m going to wait until before my roadtrip of epic fast food proportions). But I will update soon with a video, so hopefully you will be able to see the progress yourself.

But it’s just so. freaking. EXCITING!

I love how I feel right now and there are a lot of little things that I feel like are contributing it. I’ll go into detail on each of these in future posts, but I believe that my awesome fantastic feelings lately are because of these things: visualization of my future healthy self, eating way more fruits and vegetables, and cutting out the majority of the sugar I eat. Remember when I gave up sugar for just a week? Well I took the tips I learned from that to drastically cut back my sugar consumption – basically as little added sugar as possible and no sweets except on weekends. It’s a pact of sorts with my love because neither of us really love how sugar makes us crazy addicted. So far it’s going really well and the cutbacks on sugar in addition to those other things have me feeling awesome.

And since I’m feeling so good, I wanted to share some good Friday links…

I’ve been reading In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto this week and I’m finishing it up today so I can review it. Let me in on a little secret – the review will say the book is GOOD. My food has started to resemble more closely what the author talks about. Check out my food blog to see more of what I’m eating.

Since I’m not using the scale (um, as much)/not sharing my info this month, here are some good no scale posts: a no scale victory for Mizfit – her daughter doesn’t even know what a scale is. And a post from Jen, who has decided to ditch the scale because she is training to run a freaking half marathon!

Over at FitBloggin Roni posted the Making Money From Your Blog video. I watched part of it and it’s pretty good. They focus on a few different ways to monetize the blog including advertising, selling your own products, affiliate products. It’s a lot of what I cover in the monetization section of creating a better health blog. Making money from blogging is pretty awesome.

I’m thinking about opening up Friday links to everyone, as a sort of a weekly healthy living blogging carnival of sorts. If you had an amazing post that needs to be shared or a NSV or a scale victory, email me about it. I read a lot of blogs but because I read so many I miss a lot of good posts (it’s just way to much to stay on top of all the time). I’m not sure if anyone would be interested in that, but if you are, feel free to email me. I’m also thinking about starting a new project (aka a new e-book). I’m missing having a big project going on the side, so I’ve got to come up with a plan for the next project to start working on. If you have any requests, give me a shout. ;)

And with that I’m off to enjoy the day as much as possible. Happy Friday!

I am so glad you are feeling so great! That is wonderful news. And I couldn’t agree more, the more sugar I eat = the more I want!

That’s the problem with sugar! I mean, it’s naturally supposed to be that way because we need some of it, but it’s way too easily available now and waaaaay too easy to eat too much.

Love the happy vibe around you since you moved. Things are SO going in the right direction. Hapiness – Weightloss …. always have been for me.

I agree – happiness = weight loss. Moving has been really good for me. The bad environment when I was living at home wasn’t intentional, but it did exist. So I’m super glad that is behind me and things are going well. Happy vibes are the best! :)

Hey girl, glad you are visualizing and it’s helping you. I truly believe in visualization and positive thinking.

Today I posted a bit on non-scale love. Check it out. :)

I love Miz’s NSV post. I want to meet the Tornado and play. She seems awesome haha.

Anyway, I’m glad your visualization has helped! I think it’s part of the mental healing that we need when we tackle this healthy journey. The weight will come naturally (albeit slowly) when the mental healing happens.

I’m glad you’re FEELING the change! Your clothes fitting more loosely and you feeling smaller is more important than what the scale says. Keep it up and have fun today!

I want to meet the Tornado too. We could be friends I think. :)

It’s always fun to feel a change. It’s been a few months since anything has happened (plateaus SUCK) so this is pretty awesome! :)

LOVED In Defense of Food and the subtitle…eat food, not too much, mostly plants. So simple! I’m new around here, but so glad you are feeling better. I just busted through a plateau myself, and yes, they suck!

I started feeling good the other day. I felt taller, thinner, and even pretty. And then all hell broke loose and I let it all go. Getting back to it has been pretty rough, but I’m glad you are still headed in the right direction. Knowing and seeing other people continuing to move forward really does help.

I would have to say that’s bound to happen. Even someone trying to think positive and be optimistic is going to at times be faced with situations and feelings where it’s not possible to feel that way. Sadness, hurt, pain, loneliness, anger are all real emotions and should be felt when necessary. The point isn’t to always be feeling good but to make that your consistent thought pattern, the one you always return to. It might be hard but I know you can do it. You should feel better and prettier because you are those things!

We are so on the same page. I am happy for you that everything is going right! I have hit that sweet spot as well and I blogged about it today too! I just want it to stay this way forever!

I like the Friday links idea. Sharing good posts is an awesome thing to do.

I will take a look at Roni’s video thanks for sharing about that.

I look forward to your book review. I enjoy reading books that can be helpful on this journey to good health. You have a great blog and I see links and other bloggers mentioning your blog for good reason! It is awesome!

Thank you so much Tami! :) I hope you do stay in that sweet spot forever. ;)

In Defense of Food is actually a really great book if you are looking for something to read about being healthy. It’s a lot of common sense stuff but it’s the common sense that is often masked by other things that lead us astray. I completely recommend it.

    June 11, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Another book I recommend you read is “7lbs in 7 Days Super Juice Diet,” by Jason Vale while I’m not in need of losing weight I used it to help boost my flagging energy levels.

One important point that Jason made in the book was that food cravings are totally mental and not anything physical. Our bodies know what they need and never crave for things like sugar and chocolate, its our mind that puts us through all the torture.

It may be common sense to most of the readers here, but it was a real “A-ha” moment for me.

      June 11, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Sorry Barry, but that sounds like crap. I don’t like diets, especially ones where all I have to do is drink juice. Boooooo.

Some food cravings are actually physical – deficiencies in your diet can cause you to crave a food. I would agree however that most cravings – especially for sweets or fast food – is mental.

ewww! who wants to starve on juice along!

Thanks for the link love Mary! This is a bit of scary territory for me but I feel awesome about it, YAY for heading in the right direction. I gotta tell ya – you look amazing and I see changes since we last met!

Mary, you rock my socks. I’m glad things are going so great for you!!! I’ve been thinking I should toss my scale for a while, and I think I will at least hide it away for a while. The temptation to weight myself every day is too great, and I feel discouraged when I don’t see it move (or see it go up!) from day to day.
I also loved In Defense of Food, I think I will add it to my pile of books to re-read in the next few weeks!

I am so happy for you and glad you are so enthusiastic about losing this weight! You seem to be really prepared and doing well. I hope the initial rush doesn’t fade away anytime soon. It is amazing how different you can feel when you just simply start being healthy. Sugar can be a very addictive thing and it seems like you know about this, I am glad you could break the chains! It is so exciting that you are waiting another month to check your weight! I am sure that this is very hard for you to do. Good luck and keep it up!

Your excitement is contagious! I am encouraged by your happy outlook. I so agree about not weighing yourself for a little while. That number on the scale can sometimes hinder more than help. As long as you are doing what is healthy and you can feel your body becoming stronger, then you know in your heart that you are becoming a better person both physically and mentally. Good luck on your journey!
