Even though I’m not weighing myself for the blog for the month, I stepped on the scale this morning. I felt like I was losing weight and I wanted to see if it was true.
It was.
I’m finally past my stupid plateau that lasted several months. I’m finally on the downward slope again. Hurray for things finally working! Operation Sexification is a win already! My body is feeling lighter and better and that in turn makes me feel slightly sexier. (Not sure how that works, it just does.)
I also finally gave in and started buying new clothes. Since I’ve got a roadtrip to pay for coming up soon I was trying to avoid any unnecessary expenses. But a lot of you finally convinced me in was a necessary expense. So I bought a few things, and will go buy a few more this week. I have to be honest, having just a few new things totally helped with how I feel. I’m not one to buy clothes often (everything I had was old or something thrifted/given to me), so new things definitely are a luxury for me that make me feel good if they fit and look good.
A few things I bought:

That’s the outfit from the gap everyone loved and I also got a long grey cardigan because I’ve wanted one for the longest time. Things I still want on my list: some sexy shoes. Yeah, I pretty much always wear (and only own) tennis shoes and flip flops. My shoes still desperately need an upgrade.
I did buy some more shorts. Three pairs in fact. This raises my total of shorts to three! And what’s more? One was a size 14 and fit perfectly. It’s funny how sizes NEVER match up through different brands and stores. I can wear 14 at one store but still 16 at another. There is no consistency in clothing sizes. Even so, I’m wearing a size 14! That’s another step in the right direction.
I feel like I’m making a lot of steps in the right direction. This feels like a really exciting time for me where things are finally happening in the weight loss/healthiness department. I think I do best when I can get some kind of consistency and routine going, even if it’s just drinking water and moving 30 minutes each day. Routine helps for things like this to go super duper fantastically well.
Speaking of routine… now that it’s summer I’m going to institute a new summer schedule for my blogging. Yep, I’m going to try to implement a posting schedule – to help me post less! This is mostly for sanity’s sake as I’m soon to embark on a trip to California, a 2 + week long coast to coast road trip, and a move across the world. Needless to say, I’m going to be busy this summer. Posting every day here is something I need to let go.
I still plan to update every other day or whenever I have time. And if possible I will be updating my food blog daily because I feel that it’s vital to keeping me accountable with my food choices. I will also probably end up posting some roadtrip stuff there since a lot of our trip revolves around food (it’s true). So make sure you hop over there and subscribe.
I love posting here daily but I just want to give myself the out in case that isn’t always possible with the things that will be happening for me this summer. So you can expect posts here every other day or so and with Sundays my check in day as always. :)
Things are going very well for me. How are they going for you? Anyone need some encouragement?
You look great! I love the new loot!
Good for you! I could really use some new fun clothes but am too cheap and spent my money on new workout outfits for my last vacation filled with exercise. I am going to check out your other blog now…
You look great! It’s great to see (read) you so positive. I’m really excited about following your road trip virtually.
You look wonderful! I love the outfit on the left. That gray “smock”? Not so much.
You look fantastic! And I love the make-up, you face looks so fresh.
And I like the long grey sweater, I’m such a fan of the ones that don’t button but can wrap. I have a few that I’m eyeing. It’s a perfect thing to have around to finish an outfit.
I am working on really embracing losing the weight, on committing to my goals. Today feels great, I think this might be my day to really pull through and enter the space where I’m actively working on it. Fingers crossed! And good luck to you!
Thanks! I’ve enjoyed learning about makeup and skin care. I don’t even wear it all the time, but my skin is much better these day. ;)
I love the grey sweater too! Everything else I have buttons or wraps so it’s nice to have something different. :)
Good luck to you! :)
You look great in that outfit! Huge HUGE props to you for sticking it out through this plateau. You’re looking awesome!
By the way – I have to ask: do you ever feel weird taking photos like that in public? I always wonder what sort of strange person everyone must think I am when I’m taking pictures in public … not that it stops me though :)
Thanks. :) Plateaus suck but there is nothing else to do but stick it out.
Haha, no I don’t. I did when I first started, but that feeling has long since passed. I mean, I share photos with a couple thousand strangers on the internet, so what’s one or two people thinking I’m weird in the store? ;)
Congrats on your success! You look great and I love the new clothes :) Keep up the good work!!!
I’m so glad you’re seeing success and positivity in different aspects. You look gorgeous!
Life is gooooood! Of course there’s some bummers things going on but the overall picture is MAGNIFIQUE :D
I’m *almost* on vacations, I’m moving in with the man of my dreams next week and it’s ICE CREAM DAY at the office. Come on! Life is beautiful! :D
Ooooh, life is good! Those are all super awesome things! :)
Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on buying yourself new clothes!!!! I hear you on the posting too. I have to figure that out as well. Spending too much time & making no money! :-) Got to pay the bills!
Consistency is a good thing!!!!
Way to make it past the plateau! It sounds like you have an awesome summer planned! Hopefully we’ll get to hear a little bit about it. I don’t think anyone will be upset if you cut back a bit on blogging. I’m sure giving yourself some slack with help take away some stress.
I will definitely be posting about my summer adventures, just not as often. I’ll have a lot of really, really busy days and some times without access to internet, so I’ll just go with the “blog when I can” method. ;) But yes, giving myself some slack let’s me not stress about “needing to post.”
Wow Mary – you look great!! You are such an inspiration to me!!! Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to hearing about your next adventure.
Thanks you so much! :)
Congrats on getting the weight loss train moving again. It’s a great feeling! :)
As for the outfits-LOVE the Gap one! And clothes ARE a necessary expense, and whether or not you believe it or not, dressing well can really empower you, and make you feel great about your body, WHATEVER stage it’s at. it doesn’t matter your budget either, because thrift stores have some amazing finds! I’m a total clothes horse now that I’ve lost the weight. I remember the moment when I first fit into a pair of size 14’s. That’s five sizes down from where I started. So, you must feel so accomplished, congrats!
Now, if I may assert my opinion on the gray sweater-BELT IT, lady! At the smallest part of your waist, whether it be right under your bustline, or over your belly button, whatever, Just belt it! I think that it gives the sweater more shape. :) You can find belts for cheap at Target or even Goodwill, which is the best place to get belts, imo. Anyway, enough rambling from me. :)
Definitely. It’s so frustrating to get stuck!
Clothes can be expensive but yes they do make you feel great! Even if you aren’t at your goal, just buying a few new things can make you feel wonderful. And for costs I shopped at less expensive places (GAP outlet, Target, and Walmart… hehe).
That’s a cute idea about the belt. I’m so scared to buy, wear belts for some reason. I guess I’ve never thought they looked good on me and drew attention to the wrong places. But I will try that. ;)
You look great! And I really love the grey cardigan – I’ve been searching for a similar one for some time now! :) It looks really good on you.
I actually have been looking at those type of cardigans for a long time. I could never find one I loved and was affordable until this one. I love Target!
Yes sizes don’t work well. Even the sizes like in jeans, where the size is supposed to be your waist size in inches, can vary from style to style or brand to brand or store to store. I wish someone would fix that, it makes it harder to buy things. Esp online. A pair of the tightest pants I own are supposively a bigger size than all the rest lol. I was just happy they fit that tight! Congrats on your loss :) I can def see how its hard for you to post every day during traveling I cant even post every day while working.
I refuse to shop online. I do pretty much everything online except shop for clothes. Because it just won’t work for me. I have to try things on and see how they fit.
I felt like that too. I still do, to an extent. But online has way more sales than stores. I can get better quality clothes for cheaper. And theres more variety there. And I hate shopping with the droves of maniac women who swarm over clothes in stores. I get so annoyed at their pushing and screaming that I would rather shop from my computer. Most places let you return stuff if it doesn’t fit, and sometimes it doesn’t. So I just send it back.
Yeah, all good reasons to shop online. But it’s so much trouble to send stuff back and I know I’d have to send a lot of it back to get the right sizes/fit.
it usually comes with a prepaid label and you just tape it in the box it came in and stick the label on. i get them at work, try them on in the bathroom, then if they dont fit, stick them right back in the box and mail same day. lol.
Yeah, I’m going to claim the success because I know it’s going to last. I’ve moved past pretty much every reason and situation that held me back before. So there isn’t anything left to stop me but me, and that’s not going to happen. ;)
I love you too Keeeeeeepa.
I hate shopping. People are trying to convince me, too, to get something nice for myself. You are a good example (and look great).
You are on a roll! Way to go! I ALWAYS need encouragement…especially on days like today where I am felled by a sinus headache/mini migraine.
You look great and I’m so glad you are FEELING good! I think posting less during such a busy time of your life is really smart. LIVE your life, and blog about it when you have time!
Mary, From the bottom of my heart, I am thrilled for you. Congrats on your MANY successes and I’m certain we’ll keep hearing about more and more great things happening in your life!
Mary, Love the new outfits! I bought a pair of bermuda shorts in a size 14 and it was the greatest feeling ever! Keep working hard, your looking great :)
Well done, great to see you losing weight again and I love your new outfit. The grey cardigan is nice too, I might have to keep my eye out for one of those. It is nice to go shopping when you are looking good! Keep it up, you’re doing great!
Nice new clothes – sometimes it’s just necessary!! I like going to Old Navy when there are stupid good sales and pick up 10 of whatever is on sale that weekend without breaking the bank!
Congrats on breaking your plateau! You look adorable in your new clothes. I’m so happy for you and so glad things are going well. I enjoy reading your blog even though I don’t comment often.
I’m happy that I’m finally following a plan and it seems like it’s one that is working for my body. I’m amazed I’ve made it through five whole nights with no cravings! :)
Thanks for commenting Julie! I totally understand about not commenting. I read a lot of blogs and don’t have time to comment. I usually set a few hours a side every other day to comment, but even then I can’t comment on all the blogs I keep up with in Google reader. So I get it. Nor worries. ;)
Congrats on finding and following a plan that’s working for you! It’s nice once you get past cravings. Things feel easier. ;)
I am so following your blog—I love this and it’s so inspirational!
Good for you! Congrats!
Oh my, you look gorgeous, Mary!
You look fantastic…I love the new clothes!!
I found that letting go of the “I must blog all the freakin’ time” mentality really helped in other areas of my life too. Blog when you can, but do it for you..not for us.
I love the new clothes! Things are going well here too… I have a big job interview tomorrow!
Good luck with the job interview! I hope you get it! :)
Just reading your blog is encouraging. I’m glad to report that I’ve lost 28 pounds so far since May 19th. I’m eating at least 1800 calories per day and hiking 2 miles per night. Never felt better!
Go Alex!! :) That’s great news. Keep up that hard work! :)
I’d say Operation Sexification is a success! You look wonderful Mary!!
Mary you look fantastic! (well you did before as well, but now you look like operation sexification has been in full effect!) Hot mama!
I survived the road trip eating well and still managing to move, I know you can do it and enjoy it too!
I’m LOVING your new shorts! Cute and sassy! Wherever did you get them? Please do tell. The long cardi is adorable too. How cute would it be with a tank top and a statement necklace?
Congrats on the size 14! That’s AWESOME! I find it interesting/frustrating/confusing that some stores I’m one size, another store I’m this size, and then sometimes at the same exact store, I’m 2 different sizes just because the pants are black vs. gray! Argh…
Operation Sexification is definitely a success! Way to go!
I got those shorts at the Gap outlet. :) I also bought a pair of similar ones (cheaper) at Target, and a pair of jean shorts at Walmart (hehe).
You totally just gave me another awesome idea for how to wear my cardigan. <3
Sizes are ridiculous. I don't know how designers/companies ever decided what they do.
Glad to see you losing again – You are always an inspiration to me.
You look amazing! I love the outfit on the left it makes you look skinny. I think the cardi has potential…but I think the other items need to be more fitted under it for the top and the bottom.
Sizes are nuts. My husband is often confused by my wardrobe…too many sizes. Some day they will get it right for women.
LOL, I’m not planning on wearing that green shirt with it all the time people! That’s just what I was wearing the day I went shopping. ;)
I’m late to the party, but you do look amazing! Operation Sexification is paying its dividends!
You look so cute! I can’t wait to follow along with your road trip adventure. I have no doubt it will be epic.
I think it is so important to have clothes that fit the size you are. I know it is expensive but what a difference it makes in our self asteem!
You look awesome and I love the shorts!
