Thinking Out Loud

January 30, 2014 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

There are so many blogs out there and so many linkups and things I’ve never even seen before! Today I’m joining one called Thinking out loud hosted by Amanda who’s currently enjoying the sunshine and Disney in California. Yay her and yay me for finding a new blog thing to do! Woot!

thinking out loud

  •  A random writing exercise for a random linkup is just perfect for my brain today.Plus, I’m excited to find so many new blogs I didn’t know about. Now that I’ve given up drinking and am soon to give up coffee and sugar and who knows what else, I have more time for blog reading and getting to know other bloggers. I’m excited because some of my favorite people are bloggers I met through this blog. Happy to meet more!

tea

  • I’m absolutely a mess without my beloved coffee. I decided to tackle on thing at a time while giving up things and picked coffee first (surprise). Yesterday I had a caffeine withdrawal headache and went to sleep at 9 pm to get rid of it. Luckily today I don’t have a headache but my body hasn’t caught up to the lack of caffeine. I’m sleepy! I’ve been drinking a lot of tea instead and that seems to be helping… and keeping me warm.

elliptical machine workout

  • I hit the gym last night for 30 minutes of cardio. Did 20 on the stationary bike and 10 on the elliptical (my favorite). It was amazing for what it did for my spirits and energy despite the headache I had.  30 minutes of cardio is now my workout streak intention even though I started with just a “workout of any kind” idea. I’m not starting over but I’m definitely changing the rules from here on out. Cardio daily is like medicine!

polar loop says im lazy

  • My butt sits in a chair a lot. I need that 30 minutes of cardio because I sit so much every day. Even though I have the option to stand or get up I spend all my working hours sitting. This isn’t the best idea and my Polar Loop Activity Tracker informs me of my laziness constantly. Speaking of which, I owe you all a Polar Loop review! Coming soon!

  • Today’s activities: work, lunch, work, elliptical workout, dinner, work, tv, sleep. I’m so freaking exciting it’s amazing! Seriously y’all, my lifestyle is full of the excitement, be amazed! :)

  • Trip planning: I really, really want to go on some trips soon. New Orleans and Atlanta and Nashville are all on my list. For once I’m only planning trips relatively close to home. This year might be the year of domestic travel for me rather than flying around the world. ;)

Thanks to Running With Spoons for the post idea & hosting the linkup! :)

I am impressed with your whole giving up coffee thing. I enjoy my coffee too much. I don’t think I “need” it, I just flat enjoy it! I LOVE feeling the cup in my hands and the taste! Oh dear lord! HEAVEN!

I’ve been thinking about trying that Polar Loop! Can’t wait to hear your review of it! :)

The withdrawal symptoms are tough at first, but stick to it and they’ll subside. :)

Thanks! I’m hoping so! I know that getting rid of coffee (plus the cream and sweets that go into it) will help me get rid of all the added sugar next. Withdrawal sucks but it can’t last forever! :)

Yay for discovering Thinking Out Loud Thursdays! This is definitely my favorite link-up!

Well my sweet little girl, you amaze me, giving up coffee would be like the hardest thing I can think of to do. I agree you may need to but as with anything you should ease into it, and believe it of not that tea has just as much caffine in it and some more than coffee. They do have lower caffine coffee at some of the stores you may want to try them or just make it alot weaker. The sugar I agree is bad for everyone, we are a society of sweet eaters, thus the obesity and the bad teeth, our children are sluggish and would rather forget the exercise and play video games. Choices are hard and life is full of them, you will find the right ones and make them. I am confident in you and all the things you do. Love you and support you always.!

I LOVE reading through everyone’s Thinking Out Loud Thursday link-ups … I need to just bite the bullet and do my own!

I gave up coffee, too, more for the creamer/sugar addiction than the caffeine. Tea, water, and Spark are the only things I have in the mornings now. It is kinda awful and you want to kill everyone the first couple of weeks. It gets better!! :D

Do it, do it, do it!

I’m glad to hear it gets better. My mornings the last two days have been hard. I’m currently dragging at 4 pm too. I’m hoping for better things in the future. Thanks Em! :)

I am a tea drinker. Mostly loose leaf, but I love the holiday teas and have been drinking them since December :)

I love some peppermint herbal tea! So good!

    Mary
English Breakfast Tea (and other black teas) have caffeine. Less than coffee – true (Tea ranges from 14-25g caffeine; Coffee 80 – 200g). However, herbal teas are usually totally caffeine free e.g. Chamomile, peppermint.

    http://coffeetea.about.com/od/caffeinehealth/a/How-Much-Caffeine-Is-In-Coffee-Tea-Cola-And-Other-Drinks.htm

Good luck with all the changes. They are hard but hang in there. When I detox from caffeine I can have a headache for a week before it gets better!

Hey Susan. I know some teas have caffeine. However, going from drinking multiple Americanos and percolated coffee daily (somehow I chose things with the most caffeine) to a cup of tea a day is a good enough change for me for now. In the book I read it has a limit of caffeine at I think 60 mg (I’ll have to look that up for sure), so a cup of black tea is okay and shouldn’t be enough to affect. Plus, it was the only tea available where I work so I went with what I had available! I do have herbal tea at home tho that I drink at night. :)

Also, for the record, that packet is a decaffeinated tea. But still, your point stands. :)

Oooh girl I gave up my daily coffee last year. It did wonders for my health. I have one of those random stomachs that couldn’t tolerate two cups every morning. Now, I just have it on the weekends, and tea every day during the week. Best.decision.ever!
I’ve been kicking sugar to the curb recently, too. Blatant sugar like all things delicioius…cookies, brownies, Starbucks, etc. And it’s tough but awesome.
Great job on the coffee detox and working out!

That’s awesome! I am considering something like doing just a weekend one coffee rule so I can still go enjoy a coffee with my mom or a friend, but I definitely need to get off this daily habit of several cups a day.

How have you been kicking out the sugar? I’m doing that next but I’m not sure how to go about it? Detox, cold turkey, etc. What have you done?

Oh girl, you’re brave — I don’t know if I could ever give up my beloved coffee. I only drink one cup in the morning so I don’t really feel like I’m dependant on it, but I definitely notice a slight headache creeping in if I miss a day, and it’s just so comforting. Have you tried any of the herbal coffee substitutes? There’s one called Teeccino that I really like.

I’m going to echo everyone else and say that giving up coffee would only be hard, not only for the caffeine but for the taste too! I’m drinking tea as we speak and it’s not bad but definitely not coffee! Good luck though :)
