Happy Sunday friends! Today I’m sharing my third trimester pregnancy update.
I haven’t made any other pregnancy update videos frankly because I just didn’t feel like it. I hit the third trimester this past week and finally felt decent enough to share what has been going on. I’ve still got three more months so obviously things can change but right now I feel “decent”.
Pregnancy Health
In the video I share a couple good pieces of news, mainly that I don’t have gestational diabetes. I think every mom-to-be now worries about this since you have to be tested during your pregnancy. My blood work always came back normal in the beginning when they just randomly took my blood sugar to see if I needed the test early. Still, I worried when I finally got to the glucose test last week. Luckily the nurse called a couple days later and told me my results were normal and I was fine. Great news!
Weight wise I’ve been concerned because I’ve gained a bit more in the second trimester than expected. I didn’t gain anything in the first so it worried me that in the next three months I gained closer to 20 lbs. My doctor said it was fine and she isn’t worried but to keep a close eye on my diet the last trimester and try to aim for less carbs.
I’m mentally struggling with the weight gain since I’ve always been trying to lose or at least maintain my previous losses. The higher the scale creeps up the more I mentally struggle with the concept of it all. I know the baby is now at least 2 of those pounds, fluids are several more, etc. So its not all “fat” but it still stresses me when I think about my intended goal for the pregnancy and how I’m already there at 28 weeks.
Luckily I have felt good enough in the last few weeks to go back to the gym. I was active daily before I got pregnant, running 3-4 times a week and going to an hour long Zumba class twice a week. That stopped entirely around 5 or 6 weeks because I got so sick and exhausted from just daily schedule of work. I hadn’t been able to pick back up for a couple months but now I’ve been doing light weights and either walking or the elliptical after work. I’m grateful to have the energy to do anything at this point.
Baby Preparations
I talked about this in the video as well, but three months out and I don’t feel ready at all! We just put the first coat of paint on the nursery. She will be in a separate room/nursery because I’m such a light sleeper there is no way I could sleep with her in the room or co-sleep like some people do. We’ve just started on the nursery so we’ve got three months to pull it all together. So far, I’ve bought a candle holder. Yeah, I’ve got this!
We have been super blessed to already receive a lot of adorable clothes and little gifts from people. We were so surprised at Christmas and our gender revel when our little one received gifts since they weren’t expected at all. Our moms especially have already spoiled us. I show some of my favorite outfits in the video… baby girl clothes are just too freaking cute!
I do have a baby shower coming up this month at the end of the month and then more in March. We have a ton of sweet friends and family and I’m sure we will be super blessed by those experiences. While it might take me a while to finish the nursery, especially since I’m getting slower and moving a little more awkwardly these days, at least I know our baby girl will be super cute in her clothes!
All in all I’m pretty about how things are as we enter the last trimester of the pregnancy. It’s not perfect but when would things ever be?

I wouldn’t be too worried. I gained nearly 60 lbs with my first and 40 with my second. A bunch of the weight (and super mushy tummy) hung around for a Several weeks. Since it was glorious fall with both babies, we walked a lot and I had lost all of the weight by the time I went back to work (10 weeks later and 8 weeks later)..

That should say several weeks.

That makes me feel better! I’m still within range of what’s normal, I’m just struggling with the concept of gaining that much since I was overweight to start. I do think a lot will drop quickly or prove to be water retention since I know that’s happening quite a bit. Thanks for sharing your story and giving me some hope! :)
