If you’re not familiar with postpartum recovery needs you might end up with a lot of unexpected expenses during this period like I did. I was completely caught off guard by some of the items I ended up needing for my recovery and had not budgeted for them.
In this video I’m sharing some of the things I bought and am buying after having my baby a few weeks ago. They were unexpected expenses for me but researching postpartum care can help you better understand some of these expenses that I was unprepared for after giving birth.
Some of the unexpected postpartum expenses (affiliate links*) that have been my essentials the first few weeks postpartum:
- bottled water
- fenugreek lactation supplements
- prenatal vitamins for breastfeeding
- miralax for digestion issues
- pads for postpartum bleedings
- medicated cooling pads for stitches
I had no idea some of these things even existed before giving birth!
Fenugreek, for example, never crossed my path before I had to visit a lactation consultant. I didn’t know that it existed or helped many women increase their breastmilk supply. Who knew?
I also didn’t know medicated cooling pads existed for hemorrhoids – the more you know? – and that they were useful for recovering from stitches after birth. They sent me home from the hospital with some of these and I’ve already purchased two more containers. They are really useful!
Obviously a lot of these things aren’t complete surprises, especially for been-there-done-that moms. But for me there were a surprise. I researched a lot before giving birth but unfortunately because you don’t know how it will go it’s pretty hard to know what to expect afterward. Live and learn!
