Once a week carb break!

August 13, 2016 by Lois

I know it is very hard to stay on a restrictive diet and that is why so many of us fail at our attempt to do so.  I have found that with anything so restrictive that we need a break, just as a great athlete will tell you, when you push your body to its limit you have to rest it, and with any diet that is so confining to one type food, we break and change it up and we jump-start our body just as if we pull a rope on a mower.

My favorite food in any form is pasta, I love spaghetti and I make a mean sauce to add to the great flavor.  I may or may not share that with you, trade secret and all, oh I guess I will at the end of the post!  I have found that the best carbs to jump-start another week of weight loss is pasta.  You can have a baked dish with cheese or lasagna, or a pasta salad, or even go out to an Italian restaurant to have someone cook for you.  That way you not only  jump-start the weight loss but you give yourself a break from always cooking.  When you do your own cooking you can stay on track better, but it puts a strain on your time and energy, especially  if you are a working woman or man, because there are many fathers out there that cook for their families. So once a week do the carb thing and enjoy the change, but get back on the low carb, low-calorie diet tomorrow, you know it really isn’t a diet as much as its is a life style change, for you and for your children.

food, lunch, pasta

I told you I would share my spaghetti sauce recipe with you at the end of this post, so here you go:  I could tell you to make your own base, but you can start with a jar of Ragu marinara, then add your meat, the best is a lean pork tenderloin, cut in very small pieces and saute’ in a bit of olive oil. Add the pork to the Ragu, then add the following, salt and pepper, garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, basil, oregano and thyme.  Last of all add eight ounces of red wine and simmer for over four hours.  I have sautéed onions and green peppers after the pork but that is an option you may or may not want, plus you can add or subtract as you feel the need for your taste.

However you want to enjoy your pasta, is up to you, just remember to only have it once a week for the carb break to kick-start your next weeks weight loss, and when you reach your goal weight, continue to eat well and moderately and watch you carbohydrates.
