Well kids, it is bad. The progressive climb up continued once I found out I wasn’t moving out. Emotions rule my eating much? Booooo.
Weight = 246.
Another bad thing: My shoulder has been hurting all day. Ouch. Not sure what I did, but its painful.
But I went to a water aerobics class today and that was fun. : )
And on Monday I start TEACHING a water aerobics class that meets three days a week.
Ahhh! I’m completely terrified that I will suck since I have never taught before. Hopefully it won’t take too long before I am comfortable and get into the hang of teaching. So I will let you know how that goes.
And now I am going to go take a nap, because I woke up entirely too early to take that class. When I wake up I am going to plan out my first class so I can go practice tomorrow!
Sorry for the bummer weigh-in. :(
But congrats on the water aerobics class! You may not be perfect, but I can pretty much guarantee you won’t suck. :)

Emotional eating is a tough thing to break but we can push through it.
Sounds like it will be fun teaching water aerobics. You’ll do great. Just have fun and the class will too.
Have a great week and hope your shoulder feels better.

How about some advice from someone who has taken a water aerobics class for almost 2 years?
1. First thing to realize is that speed in the water isn’t the same as on land. Make sure you give the students time to perform what you are asking of them. I have an instructor – who I avoid like the plague – that is Miss Speedy Gonzales and just doesn’t allow enough time to complete tasks and thus our heart rate doesn’t go up.
2. Give enough attention between the aerobics portion and the water weights/noodle portion – provided you have that – if you don’t it’s a great addition and can really help with toning.
3. As best you can, make sure your students have proper form. This is difficult since they are in the water. But if they are really bad you should be able to pick up on it.
4. Encourage everyone to work at their own pace. That’s the great thing about water aerobics, a 90 year old can participate in the same class as a 20 year old by each one simply working as hard as THEY can.
5. Water shoes! If you get in the water it’ll save your toes! Not all my instructors get in the water and it doesn’t really seem to make the class better or worse.
6. Have a good warm up. I found that my calves tended to cramp and a proper warm up solved the problem by doing a walk and rolling my foot from heel to toe while making a large stretching step.
7. Vary your exercises so you and your students don’t get bored. Apparently there are tons of resources on the internet. My instructors mention often about finding new things on the internet.
8. Don’t be dismayed by folks not participating they way you think they should. My experience tells me that most folks are there to visit with others as much or more than they are to exercise. Most will not work really hard and put forth maximum effort. This is not because of you, it’s just the way it is. I just remind myself that some movement is better than no movement and not everyone has the same goals.
Good luck. I am sure you’ll do great!
Don’t worry about the weigh in. Remember yesterday ended last night.
Today is a new day and you can start with new positive thoughts – like teaching a successful and fun water aerobics class.
You can nail it!
