In my last post about waiting, Bella mentioned reading as something I could do. It made me giggle because I read a lot. I always have and probably always will because I prefer reading to watching television. I usually will read a book in a day or two if I’m really interested and go through a ton of books each month. So it was a good point. Lately I haven’t been seeking out many new books. So I need your help. Just leave me a comment telling me what you are reading or have read that was good. Give me some suggestions for the next time I hit up the library. I love all kinds of books so no certain genres or anything. Just give me some good reading material to keep me busy over here.

What am EYE reading? “A Merry Life Guide to Creating a Better Health Blog” of course! Hahahaha, jk. I finished that a week ago. I read a lot of tech books for work, but otherwise I read a lot of fantasy books. I’ve just recently started re-reading Dante’s Divine Comedy. :)
.-= Lauren´s last blog ..My First 5K! =-.
I love to read too!
I’m currently reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. It’s pretty good and may tackle your issues with the waiting thing. :)
Other reads:
*Haunted by Chuck Palaniuk
*The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
*Heavier Than Heaven: A Bio of Kurt Cobain by Charles Cross
*Barefoot by Elin Hildebrand
*The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
*Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
Hope those give you some ideas!
The Shadow of the Wind was the last great book I read. You will definitely zip right through it!

I just finished “Little Bee” by Chris Cleave and it was amazing.
I’m reading The “Heretic’s Daughter” by Kathleen Kent and really enjoying it.
I’ve also got Michael Pollan’s “Food Rules:An Eater’s Manual” going.
(I can’t figure out how to italicize so went with quotation marks)
I just read Little Bee too. I found the last third of the book didn’t live up to the first two-thirds…
It was okay but it didn’t feel complete to me.
In fact, a number of new books I’ve read lately feel the same way and I wonder if it’s due to the fact that publishing companies are not putting as much emphasis on editing as they used to.
.-= KCLAnderson (Karen)´s last blog ..Saying It Out Loud =-.
Speaking of editing… I HATE finding typos in published books. Drives me crazy.
I just started The Time Traveler’s Wife – so I can’t really recommend or not recommend right now.
I’m also re-reading Jacqueline Carey’s First Kushiel’s Series.
I’d also recommend anything by Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman.
i loved the time traveler’s wife!!!

I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife too.
I just read “The Hunger Games”, and the sequel, “Catching Fire”, by Suzanne Colins this past week. I was skeptical at first, but my wife convinced me to try it. Couldn’t put it down and had to read the sequel immediately. Have fun!
.-= Blake´s last blog ..It Starts Early =-.
Two of my favorite authors are John Irving and Wally Lamb. If you haven’t read Lamb’s “She’s Come Undone” you MUST read it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
.-= KCLAnderson (Karen)´s last blog ..Saying It Out Loud =-.
Currently reading A Reliable Wife and next up are Amy & Isabelle and The Girl She Used to Be. Recently I read Rainwater (Sandra Brown), Sugar, Her Fearful Symmetry and The Help. All very good!
I tender to lean toward romance novels, but I’ve been reading a few J.D. Robb books lately. That’s Nora Roberts alter ego for when she writes mystery novels. Anyway, she’s written a number of murder mysteries with the main character being Eve Dallas a detective. I always find them to be quite interesting as I try to figure out whodunit. Lol.
I’ve been going through a kid-lit period:
read Eragon and the rest of the Inheritance cycle (waiting on book 4)
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Inkheart
Golden Compass.
also read Happiness Project a few months ago, it was good.

LOL, I wasn’t sure, but you know I’m an English teacher, so I have to suggest reading to kill boredom. :)
I finished The Myth of You and Me, which was a page-turner about friendship that I loved. For something more sarcastic, you might like David Sedaris – I just (finally!) finished When You Are Engulfed in Flames. And one of my all-time faves is Jen Lancaster.
If you want to see a ton more of the books I’ve been reading, you can “friend” me on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/582939

Hmmm, not sure what happened to my comment. (Sorry if this comes through twice).
Being the English teacher that I am, I HAD to recommend reading to combat boredom.
Some of my faves from the past month or two:
The Myth of You and Me
When You Are Engulfed in Flames
anything by Jen Lancaster – her new one comes out next month!
Take the Cannoli
Eating Heaven
Thank You for All Things
If you want to see my entire list of current reads from the past year or so, you can go to my Goodreads site: http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/582939
Ok, 3rd time is the charm. I’m not sure why this comment can’t seem to post.
Being the high school English teacher that I am, I absolutely HAD to suggest reading to combat boredom. I’m always reading at least a book or two, so if you really want to see my list, you can look me up on Goodreads. Use my email, if you’d like.
Some books I’ve enjoyed in the last month or so:
The Myth of You and Me
When You are Engulfed in Flames
Take the Cannoli
Thank You For All Things
Eating Heaven
Your first two comments went to spam so I fished them out. ;)
Hey Hotass. I am in the middle of Whip Smart, which is a title that Miz passed along. Loving it. Memoir of a dominatrix. Haven’t been able to put it down.

Books are my favourite way to pass time! I love to get absorbed into a great story. Currently I’m reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, and it’s very engaging. I recently read 3 books by Jen Lancaster, Bitter is the new Black, Bright Light Big Ass, and Such a Pretty Fat. She literally makes me laugh out loud when I’m reading her books. I also enjoy the Tudor England series from Phillipa Gregory. I think there’s 5 or 6 books revolving around the women involved with Henry VIII. If you enjoy historical fiction, I also suggest Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. Also, anything by Sophie Kinsella/Madeline Wickham. I love all sorts of books, I’ll probably be back with some more titles later!

I mostly love biographies (I try to stick with autobiographies) and I’m currently reading or just finished in the past month:
Scar Tissue – Anthony Kiedis autobiography
Beautiful Boy – David Sheff (about his sons meth addiction)
Tweak – Nic Sheff (the sons journey through meth)
A Long Way Gone – Ishmael Beah (memoir of a boy soldier)
My Sisters Keeper – Jodi Picoult
Push – Sapphire

Hey Mary! I saw this post and it immediately made me think of our review copy program at work. I work for Thomas Nelson in Nashville, and we provide free copies of fiction titles for bloggers who, in turn, agree to review the book for us on their website/webpage. It’s a great way to get free books! If you’re interested, email me at fictionpubintern@thomasnelson.com. Sorry for the plug – I just thought you might be interested.
As for what I’m reading – I’m actually reading a young adult novel called “So Not Happening” by Jenny B. Jones, a Thomas Nelson title (now I really sound like an advertisement!). I haven’t read Christian fiction in years, so it’s been interesting getting back into it. Some of it is pretty cool. Some, eh. Besides my recent foray into Christian fiction, I usually read poetry and essay-ish type books like Anne Lamott and Donald Miller, or essay-ish type fiction like Sylvia Plath. Have you read “Flowers for Algernon”? I just read it last year for the first time (I know, it’s supposed to be, like, a high school read…I was late on the bandwagon :D) and so now, I’m telling everyone I know about how great that book is. It’s seriously awesome!
Haha. You are such an advertisement. But it’s okay, I’m still going to email you!
Ooh, I need to reread some Donald Miller. And I loved Flowers of Algernon when I read it (I feel like it was in middle school). One of my favorite books.
My post got eaten :( I love A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner!

Sorry about that. I think a few comments have just disappeared? Blog is acting up.
This is so awesome! Thanks for all the recommendations everyone!
Thanks for posting this, I’m getting lots of good book ideas. I started a list!

I read a lot. I love to read (some ppl don’t expect that cuz im ditzy). Have you seen http://www.goodreads.com? It is a site where you can see what your friends are reading, and get reccomendations and stuff. You can even meet and talk with authors. (well, online, I mean). I don’t usually read super smart books though. Right now, im reading a sort of smart one. Its historical fiction. It’s katherine by anya seton. I’d read this book in high school or college, it’s about this woman back in the 1300’s. No, its not a romance (blech). I don’t know if you like historical fiction or not, but if you do, check out this author. She’s dead now, but she wrote tons of books and I guess is considered someone big in that genre. And you learn about history in a fun way. You can always check my twitter, cuz goodreads updates it and you’ll always know what I’m reading (or the little badge that’s at the right on my blog that shows what books I’m reading).
.-= merri´s last blog ..83030132 [Flickr] =-.
Lisa See is awesome. Start with “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” and then read “Shanghai Girls”.
I also loved ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’ by Max Brooks. Oooh! Or anything by Kelley Armstrong (start with Bitten though).
AND!! ‘The Hunger Games’ and it’s sequel by Suzanne Collins. Best books I’ve read in a very long time and the third book is due out in August.
What? I like to read!
.-= Tara´s last blog ..Interstate Love Song =-.
I adore Diana Gabaldon- she has a really good historical-fiction series about the Scottish highlands; it’s QUALITY writing with romance/adventure.
I also love anything by Graham Greene or Susanna Clarke; they both write fantastic novels.
Waiting is frustrating- BUT you’ve got lots to look forward to, and now you’ve also got tons of books to keep you occupied in the meantime ;)

Hmm…I’m also an avid book reader. I generally have at least 8 books from the library stacked up and I go through one book in about a day or so (as long as it’s interesting).
Good reads:
– Angelology (can seem slow but it’s worth it)
– The kids are all right
– Silver Borne (Mercy Thompson series – about werewolves)
– Committed (the sequel to Eat, Pray, Love – though I really liked EPL more)
– any book by P.C. Cast

Neil Gaiman is one of the best modern day authors. I highly recommend Neverwhere. It’s got a strong female protagonist and wonderful writing.
He wrote Coraline which came out in theaters last year. Enjoy!
I love A Prayer For Owen Meany. My one book for last year (yeah…I don’t read much). And I love Ender’s Game. That’s my go-to I need to read something awesome and easy and fast book.
I might pick up Born to Run (via a suggestion) but I’m really bad with reading. Maybe I should stop watching movies and read more.

I was just going to write a post on these two books I just finished… they were so wonderful I wanted to share. So, I haven’t written that post yet, but I’ll give you the scoop!
The House on Beartown Road by Elizabeth Cohen
Hurry Down Sunshine by Michael Greenberg.
Both are non-fiction (which I read 90% of the time)
But two of my fav novels are She’s Come Undone, and the Time Traveler’s Wife (as recommended above.)
Happy reading!

I like “The Fountainhead”, “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand, “Angels and Demons”, “The Da Vinci Code”, “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown, “Twilight” series and “The Host” by Stephenie Meyer, and the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn to name a few.

I used to read a lot more than I do right now, but my favourite book of all time if Flowers for Algernon; it seriously changed my life. Some other favourites are Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and anything by Patricia Cornwell, Philip Margolin, Robin Cook or James Patterson.

You HAVE to read Jhumpa Lahiri. She’s absolutely amazing. Start with “Interpreter of Maladies.” It won the Pulitzer Prize, yet it’s really readable and engaging. She is my new favorite writer.

I’ll have to check out the good reads site.
The best book I read this past year was The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. It’s a sad story about a girl growing up in Natzi Germany but so beautifully written. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed. You can check out reviews and my other favorites on my bookshelf.
I love all the great recommendations. If you do read Eat Pray Love, make sure you read the flip side of the story Drink Play F*ck. It was much lighter than EPL.
