It’s time for some lunch time blogging! I started working out this morning so I finished a full workout before going to work. It felt strange yet awesome! Because I’m working out in the mornings now I might use more of my lunch hour to blog. :)

I don’t talk much about politics on the blog because I don’t lean strongly in either direction and, yes, I vote both ways. I found this infographic amusing both because it seems accurate based on the people I know and because I love infographics.
I found it via Mashable. The information comes from collective intelligence decision-making system Hunch.com, a site that’s gathering data from millions of web users about preferences and building a “taste graph” for the entire Internet. The infographic was created by Column Five Media.
Here’s the break down eating habits and preferences by political attitudes:
Fascinating! I have to say I lean more toward the liberal side as far as eating (okay, and sometimes probably in voting and ideology).
My favorite points from the list:
- Conservatives are 94% more likely to consider occasional Chinese takeaway to be exotic ethnic food. (This made me laugh.)
- Liberals are more than 100% more likely to cook a coconut curry with lamb and rice at home.
- Overall, both groups tend to think bacon cheeseburgers are delicious. (Well, yeah!)
- Conservatives overall aren’t really sure what a “foodie” is. They’re 52% more likely to claim not to know what makes a person a “foodie.”
Of course this doesn’t mean much. It’s just interesting and fun.
How do you stack up with your eating habits? Do you lean more towards liberal or conservative? Does this match what you actually are?
Sagan says
Hehe! This was great. My food preferances are similar to what they refer to as “Liberal food choices”… as are my political leanings. Veeeeery interesting.
Infographics are the best.

No offense, but this list was obviously compiled by a liberal – it makes conservatives seem tasteless and classless in all of their preferences. As a conservative voter, I definitely don’t want meatloaf or bacon cheeseburgers all the time. I would far prefer fresh vegetables and water. Maybe if they’re polling Rush Limbaugh, I could see where this list came from for conservatives. If it’s Bill Clinton vs. George W. Bush, though, the healthier eater is going to be Bush. And, c’mon, everybody likes McDonald’s fries. Maybe conservatives are just a little more honest than liberals with their eating preferences?

Like I said… this doesn’t mean anything, it’s just for fun. Besides, most of the things are small percentages MORE LIKELY to do something… that doesn’t really mean one side or the other doesn’t enjoy them too. It’s a poll of people online who self identified and shared preferences, obviously not horrible scientific. Maybe conservatives do tend to like meat more? Does that mean they are tasteless and classless? Does liking one kind of food make you better than someone who likes something different? That’s a pretty harsh judgement, haha.
Jenni says
I was referring to the verbiage of the list…saying conservatives don’t even know what a “foodie” is? The way it was worded definitely made it seem like conservatives were classless.
Mary says
Perhaps. But then again I know a lot of people who don’t know what a foodie is.
Jenni says
Exactly.

I lean toward liberal food tastes. Interesting little study and it’s all in good fun!

I’m a flaming liberal and I eat that way too apparently!!!!!
And I do not like bacon cheeseburgers at all!
Frances D says
Looks like my eating habits will give me away – lol I’m proudly liberal in my views.
Enjoyed my visit to your blog.
I needed some serious inspiration today, and I’m glad Google led me to you!
Waving at you from New York!

Waving back from Memphis! :)

i’m kinda equally mixed between liberal and conservative from these choices. I doubt it really means anything (i know it’s just for fun though!). In real life, i’m liberal, though i wouldn’t let that label limit me.

And how about you don’t delete my comments.
Mary says
Don’t curse in them and i won’t delete them!

With all the people who would be grateful tonight to eat anything, we get to think about whether our food choices reflect our politics? Your post reminds me of how lucky I am to live in such a wealthy country, and to be untouched by recent disasters.
I cook chicken curry, but detest bacon and cheeseburgers.
Perhaps I’m supposed to be a libertarian.
Mary says
Hahahaha.

Wow, what happened to everyone’s sense of humor?!? :)
Mary says
Good question! I should have known to stay completely away from politics!

This post is so cool! Love it :)

I don’t do politics well…it ALWAYS comes back to bite me in the bum in a way I don’t to be bitten ;-)
Snarky says
I get that you mean this post as tongue in cheek and FUN. Still as a conservative, whoever wrote this article is REDONKULOUS! ;)
Snarky says
Sidenote…..love your blog!

Thanks! I don’t disagree with the comments that it’s got some ridiculous comments on the conservative side. Some of it I had to just laugh at.
Ginny says
Let’s all have fun with this, I tend to be more conservative, and this is hilarious because my food choices are like those on the conservative side.
what’s the chances of that, way too funny!
Jennie says
I know that “study” was supposed to be funny, but if someone who doesn’t know anything about politics were to read it, they’d get some really mistaken ideas about people. I’m conservative in my politics, yet EXTREMELY liberal when it comes to food, and I know many others who vote (and eat) the same way. I also know plenty of liberals who are very picky eaters. And vice-versa on all counts, of course.
Mary says
People shouldn’t take things sooooo seriously. It’s about food. Food! Not even an issue! And obviously anyone with common sense should be able to understand that it’s not the end all be all and people from both sides eat all sorts of ways.
Amy @ life's journey with a smile says
I think it’s funny when people get all crazy over this kind of thing – it’s just finding random stats and finding a funny way to apply them. I think this probably has more to do with attitudes rather than the way you vote too – as a society many conservatives are moving towards a more liberal attitude so I think most people could identify with a liberal stance too… however I think it probably rings VERY true to the classic VERY conservative 60/70 year old.
Diana @ frontyardfoodie says
Naturally, I guess who would eat ‘healthier’ of course because we all know what kind of people are generally each viewpoint…..
With every generalization there is an exception and though I’m not a Republican per say, I am very conservative politically. I am definitely a foodie and have never been a fan of meatloaf, the singer/actor or the dish;) haha
I live in Missouri which has it’s share of rednecks but most people I know are interested in food and vote based on conservative values (even if that means going Libertarian, like myself).
